FAQ's
Q: Is there a fee to use your service?
A: No way! The service we provide is completely free.
Q: I've been offered locum work with recruit4vets, what do I need to do now?
A: The first step is to ensure you have returned the compliance documentation to us, then you have to inform us which payment vehicle you are using. We will then send you your timesheets and contracts.
Q: How will I be paid?
A: At recruit4vets it is the agency that pays the locum not the practice. This ensures the locum is guaranteed to be paid from one source, on time every time. Payment is made via BACS directly into your bank account. The whole payment process is very simple and takes 5 working days.
Q: What happens if the practice cannot/refuses to pay?
A: You still get paid, as an Employment Business we are regulated by the Conduct of Employment Business Regulations which states we must pay the locum regardless of when we receive payment from the client.
Q: How much can I expect to earn as a locum?
A: Locum pay rates are influenced by a number of different factors; such as experience, qualifications, location and what the practice is prepared to pay. Recruit4vets are committed to maximising the earning potential of locums and will work hard to ensure you are well remunerated for your work through us, simply tell us the rates of pay you expect and we will negotiate with the practice on your behalf. For further information on locum pay rates contact recruit4vets
Q: How does the timesheet process work?
A: At the beginning of your assignment you will be issued with a timesheet. You will need to complete your timesheets weekly and have it signed by your line manager. We strongly advise faxing your timesheets to ensure prompt payment.
We run two payroll runs per week, timesheets which reach us by 4pm Friday will be paid the following Friday, timesheets which reach us by 4pm Wednesday will be paid the following Wednesday
Q: Can I work self employed?
A: Recruitment agencies and many practices are increasingly unwilling to pay Self Employed locums directly due to 'Transfer of Debt' legislation. However at recruit4vets we can pay Self Employed locums through an intermediary called Gabem. Gabem is a payroll company who operate a scheme for Self Employed locums called 'Solo'. The Solo scheme is very simple; you will be contracted to Gabem as a Self Employed Contractor. Gabem will set up the contracts between you and the agency and Gabem will pay money due for your services directly into your bank account.
Q: Is the Gabem Solo scheme simple to use?
A: Yes! It is very simple and best of all it's completely free. At the end of each week you will raise a timesheet to recruit4vets, upon receipt of your timesheet recruit4vets will make a gross payment to Gabem. Gabem will then make the same gross payment directly into your bank account, produce an invoice on your behalf and provide a remittance advice listing your potential tax liability so you know how much to save for your year end tax. The whole process is completely free of charge, is very simple and takes 5 working days from receipt of timesheet to monies into your account, you are also guarenteed to be paid weekly, on time, every time regardless of when the practice pays us.
Q: What is an Umbrella Company?
A: An Umbrella Company acts as the employer to independent locums working under a temporary contract. By working through an Umbrella Company locums are able to offset business expenses against tax and you will in most cases receive higher take home pay than working through normal PAYE. The Umbrella Company will not only take care of your tax and National Insurance whilst you are locuming but will also manage invoicing and payroll coordination with recruit4vets. For further information about Umbrella Companies contact recruit4vets
Q: I work through a limted company, what information do you need?
A: At the begining of your first assignment with recruit4vets we must receive:
- a copy of the Certificate of Incorporation
- a copy of the VAT registration certificate (if applicable)
- limited company bank account details
Q: Should I work through an Umbrella Company or my own Limited Company?
A: This all depends on a number of elements such your contract length, payment basis, IR35 status and working practice. We have teamed up with Danbro; one of leading providers of payroll and accounting solutions for contract and temporary workers in the UK. They have a wide array of solutions and they always provide best advice on the most tax efficient, complaint and hassle free way for you to be paid.

Q: What is a Self Billing Tax Invoice?
A: Recruit4vets have introduced a self billing scheme for their contractors. The benefits for the contractor are that they do not have to produce their own invoice, it speeds up the payment process, reduces administration and is more efficient. Recruit4vets prepares the Contractor's invoice and sends it to the Contractor with payment, in other words you no longer have to send an invoice with your timesheet, you send the timesheet and recruit4vets send the invoice along with payment. Basically it is a more efficient payment process for both the Contractor and recruit4vets
Q: Do I need insurance?
A: Most practices will only offer insurance whilst the locum is working on an assignment but you may not be covered if a claim is made after you finish the assignment. We strongly recommend therefore that you have your own insurance cover. Some Umbrella Companies will provide Professional Indemnity Insurance 'free of charge' as part of their service but this is often limited.
Q: I am a new arrival to the UK, can you offer advice?
A: Yes, we are committed to providing an exemplarary service to all our candidates. For further information please click here
Q: My assignment is coming to an end, what happens next?
A: Your recruitment consultant at recruit4vets will be speaking to the client at your current assignment to see if they would like to extend your contract. If not, then we will pro-actively search for other suitable positions which match your requirements |
