We have an exciting opportunity for a sole charge, Head Veterinary Surgeon in a well-equipped community-based practice in North London. As the Head Vet, you will be responsible for the day to day running and performance of the practice. You will also lead the team with the help and support of vets from the other practices.

The Practice:

Our client has practices across North London, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire, which includes four 24-hour emergency hospitals and a specialist referral centre in London. They have nearly 300 staff, including specialists in Soft Tissue Surgery, Dermatology and Emergency and Critical Care, staff with certificates in feline practice, and residency trained consultants in anaesthesia and analgesia and internal medicine. Due to the various sizes of our clients' practices, the pace of work ranges from quieter practice through to a busy hospital. Within the group, they can offer Cardiology, Dermatology, Diagnostic Imaging, Emergency & Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Oncology & Surgery.

The Role:

You will be to essentially run your own branch as the Head Veterinary Surgeon. This is a full-time permanent role, where you will be working 45 hours a week Monday-Friday (with Wednesday afternoon off) and every Saturday 09:00-14:00.

Your main responsibilities will include:

Patient/Clinical Care - Delivering a high level of clinical care to standards in conjunction with the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme (Including but not limited to holding consultations and diagnosing animals, performing surgery, administering anaesthesia, undertaking scans, prescribing and euthanases where necessary)

Client Care - Delivery of client satisfaction to an exceptional level, by delivering value, exceptional services and warmth to the clients.

Business Development - Ensuring that the practice runs effectively and efficiently to fully support the objectives of the practice.

Team Work - Ensuring that working within your Vet Team and the wider hospital team to contribute to a harmonious team ethos at all times.

The Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have strong small animal medical and surgical experience along with awareness of the operational aspects of the practice that affect the practice profitability. You will have the confidence to lead the team and will have previous experience of working in a sole charge role. It would be beneficial to have an understanding and experience of a Head Vet position, and previous experience of managing a team. 

The ideal candidate will be self-aware, have a positive attitude and will be receptive to change. They will have effective communication skills within the team and with the clients. They will possess the ability to work as a strong contributor to a team.

Experience Required: Must have strong medical and surgical experience with the ability to lead a team
