Se4rch Veterinary Specialists, are working on behalf of a client based in Wolverhampton looking for a referral vet surgeon with an orthopaedic bias to come and set up/ run a referral surgery service.

The Practice:

Our client is a large tier 3 RCVS accredited hospital open 24 hours. There is a total of 7 vets and 15 nurses. The hospital is equipped with an in house lab, ultrasound, digital and dental xray, endoscopy and has recently installed a CT scanner.

The Role:

This is a fantastic opportunity to set up and run a surgical referral service with complete autonomy. You will be the decision maker on the equipment you have and how your service will run and the cases you see etc. Your work will purely focus around surgical referral cases, a bias in Orthopaedics is preferable, but a good all round ortho and soft tissue surgeon is also desirable. You will have support from a theatre nurse when operating.

This is a full time permanent position working 4 days per week, there are no OOH’s for the position, however should a complication arise towards the end of a shift, naturally there would be the expectation to look after the case to ensure the pets welfare. The hospital is open 24 hours, so there will always be vets and nurse on hand to look after in patients.

The Candidate:

You will be a confident and experienced vet surgeon, with a proven track record of the ability to carry out referral level surgical cases. Ideally a minimum of CertSAS is required, however, if you have a clear proven track record without this accreditation in a referral environment, you will be given consideration. It is not essential, but our client would ideally like someone who can nurture less experienced vets who show and interest in surgery. As you will be running this service, experience running a similar service would be an advantage. Salary is negotiable and will also involve a performance based bonus and full relocation is offered.

Summary:

Role: Referral Vet Surgeon - Orthopaedic bias

Hours: 4 days per week

Weekends/Out of hours: No OOH’s

Salary and benefits: Full Relocation, Negotiable salary starting at around £70,000 p/a + bonus scheme
