We have an exciting opportunity for a Head Veterinary Surgeon to join a busy established small animal veterinary hospital based south of Cambridge. The position is full-time and permanent.

The Practice:

This is our client’ flagship hospital supporting the Cambridge area. The state of the art building, completed in 2013, provides an exceptional environment for clients, staff and most importantly the pets.

The practice maintain strong local focus and are committed to serving the community as well as providing support and referral facilities to the wider area. The hospital provides a full range of services from routine preventative health care through to advanced surgery and medicine.

The Role:

This is a full-time permanent position for a Head Veterinary Surgeon. The role is 45 hours per week. This will include covering 1 in 6 weekends, 1 extra bank holiday a year and EIV(on call duties). The role includes cover to branch gaps in rotation with other vets.

The role is responsible for leading the experienced Veterinary team and delivering clinical care to the hospital’s patients and client care to their owners. It is paramount that this role delivers client satisfaction to an exceptional level. This includes making all interactions fully focused on delivering value, exceptional service and bringing warmth to clients.

Typical responsibilities will be:

Delivering a high level of clinical care to standards in conjunction with the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme (including but not limited to holding consultations and diagnosing animals, performing surgery, administering anaesthesia, undertaking scans, etc.

Making sure that your work fully supports the Head Vet’s objective of ensuring the hospital runs effectively and efficiently.

Managing the vet teams and wider hospital team, to contribute your skills, efforts and personal strengths to help ensure a harmonious team ethos at all times.

The Candidate:

The successful candidate will have experience running a busy 24 hour hospital. Ideally you will have 9 years plus experience. 

You will be someone who has strong small animal medical and surgical experience, an excellent communicator, who thrives on positive interactions with clients and their pets and has an aptitude and desire to lead a high performing veterinary team. You will also be aware of the operational aspects of the practice that affect practice profitability.
