We are working with a Tier 2 small animal practice based in the beautiful seaside town of Bournemouth, Dorset that has an exciting opening for a small animal Veterinary Surgeon to join them on a permanent full-time basis.
Our client has 4 vets with interests in endoscopy and endoscopic surgery, imaging, and dentistry. 4 qualified nurses; 6 trainee nurses at various stages; 5 part time receptionists; This practice offers the latest state-of-the-art equipment, to ensure prompt diagnoses and the most effective treatments. Their modern surgery has been designed to industry-leading standards and has state of the art equipment. Our client is a 4 person SA practice with 2 sites - one in Kinson, Bournemouth, the other in Poole. They are a Tier 2 nurse training practice. The practice is well equipped with digital X-rays and high-quality ultrasounds, flexible endoscopes, and a video scope, class IV laser. I also do a lot of laparoscopy and keyhole spays. The Kinson clinic is hospital standard and only 3 years old with a load of workspace.
This role for a small animal Veterinary Surgeon is full-time and permanent. Working 40 hours a week with no out of hours and a 3-week rota with one weekend off; one working with Saturday am and afternoon surgeries and a Sunday am surgery for 2 hours; the 3rd week has Fri Sat Sun off. Before a weekend on there is Thursday off and following a weekend on there are 2 half days. Start 8.30am finish at 7.30pm on lates or around 3.30pm earlies. Vets are required to work 2 or 3 lates per week depending on the week of the rota. Consults are 10 mins with added gaps to allow 12.5-15mins overall depending on vet preference/ experience.
Experience is less important than excellent communication skills and a positive attitude with a drive to continually improve however you should be a confident surgeon with general surgical and medical skills and experience in emergency surgery, capable of working sole charge at times, and with a strong customer-service focus. You will be passionate about providing an excellent service and working as part of a highly-skilled team. You will also enjoy a variety of cases and have the ability to work these up to a high standard. Enthusiasm and energy are a must, as is a willingness to communicate with colleagues and clients, in the best interests of your patients. You will also have the opportunity to study towards a certificate as this is strongly encouraged. Salary depends upon experience. Our client uses the SPVS survey as a guide to ensure they are competitive. 5 weeks holiday and RCVS and BSAVA fees paid. We encourage CPD and fund all reasonable CPD requests.
