An exciting vacancy has arisen for a full-time permanent Registered Veterinary Nurse to work at a well established, busy 24-hour Veterinary Hospital in North West London.
The practice has been a veterinary clinic since the 1920s, offering over 80 years of service to the community. The practice is one of the most sophisticated veterinary practices in the UK. It is exceptionally well equipped across 4 floors with consulting rooms, operating theatre, hospital wards, full laboratory, digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, and an intensive care unit. The practice receives internal and external medical and surgical referrals and serves as the 24-hour emergency clinic for many North London vet practices.
This is a full-time permanent position for a Registered Veterinary Nurse. The working hours are 10-hour shifts based over 4 days during the week. However, 1 week in 8 the shifts will be 8-hours over 5 days during the week. The weekend rota is 1 in 3 weekends and there will be a 12-hour shift on Saturday or Sunday.
The roles are spread across different areas of the practice and the duties and responsibilities breakdown as follows:
Wards: Assisting vets with daily checks, following hospital charts to administer treatments, maintaining and caring for IVs, central lines, o-tubes, u-caths, Peg tubes. Monitoring patients’ vitals and demeanour throughout the day and reporting any changes to hospital vet. Reduce patient stress and assist with grooming. Assisting Patient care assistants with maintaining wards tidiness, restocking and general housekeeping.
OPS: Preparing patients for general anaesthetic, sedation and conscious procedures. Monitoring patients during using multi-parameter to include heart rate, respiratory rate, capnograph, SPO2, blood pressure. Care and cleaning of surgical equipment and theatre. Assisting with and managing equipment for ultrasounds, dentistry, and endoscopy.
Other Responsibilities include maintaining high standards of care, teaching students, safeguarding patients, signaling issues to the management team, handing over of information correctly between staff and clients regarding patients under care, complying with GDPR regulations.
You will be an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse with a minimum of 1 years post graduate experience and an interest in all areas of hospital practice.
Essential skills include the ability to follow hospital sheets, calculate medications, assess and document patient vitals. Be able to take blood and place IVs, conduct surgical preparations have a good telephone manner, good interpersonal skills, be a good communicator and excellent team player and attitude.
Desirable skills include being a multitasker and flexible. Have experience with managing feeding tubes, central lines, drains, CRIs, use of a multi-parameter.
