We are currently recruiting on behalf of a mixed practice in Dorchester that is looking to recruit a permanent mixed animal (70% small animal and 30% farm), Veterinary Surgeon. The hours for this role are flexible and could be full or part-time depending on the right candidate. They are looking for a vet with sufficient medical and surgical experience that is comfortable in a sole charge position.

The Practice:

Our client is a family owned busy Veterinary Practice that provides a friendly, caring, high-quality vet service to pet owners, farmers, and smallholders in West Dorset and South Somerset. Our client is a tier 2 RVS Accredited practice has two practices in the Dorchester area and a third another in nearby Somerset. They are an independent, non-corporate, graduate friendly mixed veterinary practice with 20 employees. Their practices are modern, purpose-built with onsite physiotherapy/hydrotherapy facilities and fantastic equipment that includes:

  • Full idexx in-house lab
  • Ultrasound
  • Digital x-ray
  • Endocrinology
  • Video Endoscopy
  • ECG and Lazer
  • Plus much more

The Role:

This is a permanent role for a mixed animal, 70% small animal and 30% farm, veterinary surgeon, that can be either full or part-time (between 24 and 40 hours per week). The shifts are various, depending on hours worked. The out of hours requirements are 1 night per week and 1 weekend per month on call and all will be sole charge. The weekend rota is 1 in 4.

Your typical duties will include routine work, TB Testing, and clinical work in-house with an element of sole charge, so you must be comfortable with this. There will be an element of branch work and there are 6-10 miles between the branches.

The Candidate:

Our client is looking for a veterinary surgeon with at least 1-year post-graduate experience. You will have strong communication skills and happy to play an active role in this family team. They are looking for an empathic and warm candidate that is self-motivated, dedicated but that has a great sense of humour.
