We are currently recruiting for a small animal Veterinary Surgeon on behalf of a well-established and respected veterinary hospital in South Australia. This is a full-time position for a minimum of 12 months and would be suitable for a vet with at least 2 years of post-graduate experience.
Our client has 4 locations on the stunning Yorke Peninsula 1.5 hours from Adelaide in South Australia. The region is a famous tourist destination with beautiful beaches, cafes, a winery, distillery and brewery all within easy reach. This area is a major crop growing area and has lush green pastures during the growing season. The area is outstanding for surfing, fishing, hiking, camping and has a lively local community at the heart of it.
Our client has been established for over 20 years and growing from strength to strength winning multiple awards. In 2012, they won Best Vet Clinic/Surgery category in the national MDBA Awards. Practice owner Dr. Natalie Olding was also nominated as Most Supportive Vet in 2012, 2013 and 2014. In 2014, they won Best Large Business for the Yorke and Mid North region at the SA Regional Awards. In 2016, the practice was nominated in the Rural Community Health and Wellbeing and Community Group of the Year categories at the SA Community Achievements Awards. Our client has a fully renovated main clinic at Kadina with separate dog and cat hospital wards, feline-only consult room and waiting region, imaging room and surgery theatre, applying in 2019/20 for feline-friendly accredited practice. All the regular toys are on hand including ultrasound, digital Xrays, in house IDEXX lab suite.
This position is offered on a full-time basis for a minimum of 12 months. The rota is Monday to Friday with consulting finishing at 5 pm – no late evenings or consulting times, No after-hours or on-call roster, no public holidays and 1 Saturday clinic per month (half day), with no Sundays.
Duties include general consultations including health checks, vaccinations, lump checks, skin and ear cases, unwell sick vomiting pets, emergency cases, eye cases, anal gland abscesses/impactions, pregnancy checks, etc
Medical cases & workups including imaging (X-rays and ultrasound), microscope preparation and exam of slides, blood tests, abscess, and wound clean-ups, placing of patients into hospital with IV fluids, medications and tests to be conducted. Surgeries include routine desexing work, lump removals, caesarian/whelping’s, pyometra cases, aural haematomas, wound, and laceration suturing, dog attack stitch-ups, etc, entropion surgery, ex lap surgeries, anal sacculectomy surgeries, etc. Referral cases are sent to the Vet University or specialists – difficult or advanced cases, orthopaedics, or ongoing 24-hour care cases.
Our client is looking for a competent vet with a minimum of 2 years of post-graduation experience. The role is for an experienced veterinarian in a small animal GP practice; covering consultations, medical procedures, and surgeries, dealing with clients both in person and on the telephone. Working as a team with several other veterinarians in the practice and multiple veterinary nurses so good communication is required and teamwork is essential. The position is for a minimum of 12 months, however, this can be extended and made permanent if desired. Full visa sponsorship is available with a number of options open to the candidate. A desire to help mentor and assist junior vets with their cases is required.
Our client is offering a fully negotiable salary of around $110,000 (subject to experience) full VISA sponsorship and support, vehicle, accommodation if the form of a self-contained house behind the main clinic with all facilities, TV and even a white leather lounge for lunch to get “out of clinic” and have a break away from the cases and phones! An option to extend, or potential for partnership or financial share in practice in future years if desired
