We are working with a growing referral veterinary practice in Wakefield, West Yorkshire that is looking for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join their team of Nurses. This is a part-time evening role for a Dispensary RVN, as aspects of this role are client-facing it is vital that you are friendly, cheerful, approachable and always willing to go the extra mile to provide the highest standard of client care.

The Practice: 

Emerging from a successful referral service, our client will open the doors to its brand new, purpose-built referral centre in Wakefield, offering exceptional patient care with cutting-edge veterinary medicine and addressing key issues facing referral vets in the region. Their extensive facilities will be housed in what will be one of the largest and best equipped purpose-built small animal referral centre in the UK. They share a clear vision, to deliver the best, most caring and highly advanced treatment possible to patients and their owners in the North of England. Their state-of-the-art facilities are situated in pleasant, clean surroundings allowing the highest level of care, providing a high level of service to the client. 

Their new facilities will include Digital imaging department, fixed 1.5T 18 channel MRI whole body scanner, 16 slice CT scanner, X-Ray and fluoroscopy, Endoscopy, Ultrasound and electro-diagnostics, operating microscopy, 24 hour intensive care facilities, 5 Ultra-hygienic operating theatres, 8 consulting rooms, spacious and comfortable waiting room with a separate cat waiting area. 

They are committed to providing a multi-disciplinary referral service for patients, their owners, and referring vets. Their disciplines will include; Anaesthesia, Cardiology, Dermatology, Diagnostic Imaging, Internal medicine, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Soft Tissue Surgery.

The Candidate and Role:

This is a part-time permanent role, where you will be working an average of 20 hours per week. The shifts will be Monday 17:00-20:00, Tuesday-Friday 16:00-20:00 on the dispensary. There will be 1 in 6 Saturdays mornings 08:00-14:00 working on reception.

This opportunity would suit a highly motivated and proactive individual to take responsibility for evening dispensary management. Your key duties will include:


  • Assisting the vets during consults
  • Preparing and dispensing medications (completing all necessary paperwork)
  • Admitting and discharging patients at the direction of the vets
  • Assisting the reception team and answering telephone calls
  • Cleaning and infection control of the consulting rooms after morning appointments
  • Applying eye drops and completing paperwork for eye testing


  • To join the 1:6 reception weekend rota 08:00-14:00
  • Booking appointments with the help of the admin team
  • Answering the telephone
  • Taking payments and cashing up
  • Ensuring correct procedure followed when dealing with insured patients

You will be a dedicated and compassionate RVN that will enjoy working in a hardworking, supportive team that is willing to go that extra mile. Previous experience of nursing within a referral practice is not essential.
