We are working with a mixed practice near to Cirencester, Gloucestershire that is looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join them on a full-time permanent basis. This is a genuine mixed role which will include work comprising of Farm and Small Animal work. Due to the support available, they are happy to receive applications from New Graduates. The post will be available from 13 January 2020.

The Practice:

This well-established and independent group of veterinary practices are proud to offer veterinary services to the farm and small animals in the Cirencester area of Gloucestershire. Their experienced team of veterinary professionals that knows that a pet is a valued member of the family, so they do their very best to offer the care that you'd expect yourself. They do this with honest, good advice offered in plain English, without a hint of confusing jargon. They also have some great technology that helps to keep pets healthy and happy, which in turn, makes their clients happy. In the Small Animal department, they have the latest technology that includes:

  • On-site Laboratory diagnostics
  • Courier collection for external laboratory work
  • Digital X-ray facilities
  • Ultrasound
  • Endoscope
  • Compressed air powered dental equipment
  • ECG
  • Blood pressure monitor
  • Capnography and pulse oximetry

The Farm Animal Department offers the latest technology and treatments that include

  • Portable ultrasound equipment
  • On-site laboratory diagnostics
  • Courier collection for external laboratory work
  • Fertility routine visits using manual palpation and ultrasonography
  • Assistance for mastitis control
  • Sample collection to aid diagnostics
  • Herd/flock health plan preparation and annual review
  • As well as the traditional 'fire brigade' service

The Role:

This is a genuinely mixed vet role, with work comprising of farm and small animal work. The position is full-time, with all weekday shifts starting at 8.30 am and one half-day per week, finishing around 12.30. The weekend rota includes one full weekend in four and also work one Saturday morning in four.

There are two vets on call every evening, one first, one second, the rota during the week is one in four first call and one in four second on call. The vets on call do all the evening surgeries, so a vet is not on call, the day finishes around 5 pm.

In return, our client is offering a competitive salary that is dependent on experience and CPD is paid.

There is a one-bedroom flat above one of their surgeries. They would prefer to pay a mileage allowance for use of their own car (currently they pay 45p per mile). However, if push comes to shove, our client can get hold of a car.

The Candidate:

Our client is happy to recruit new graduates, in fact, the level of support given out of hours has made the job attractive to new grads in the past.

Successful applicants will be expected to become an OV, but TB work is shared equally amongst the vets. Training for the OV will be paid by the practice. Applicants should be comfortable doing farm work.
