We are currently recruiting on behalf of a veterinary practice in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire/Berkshire who are looking to recruit a permanent experienced Veterinary Surgeon. This is a full-time role where you will be joining a friendly team in an independent small animal practice.

The Practice:

Our client is a friendly independent small animal practice with one main surgery and a branch practice. They are fully equipped with up to date surgical and diagnostic facilities including; X-ray, Ultrasound with Doppler, Endoscopy, in-house lab, 24-hour cover, Ophthalmic expertise, and much more. They have a team of 12 experienced vets and 12 RVN's, with experience ranging from 4 to 40 years.

The Role:

This is a full-time position, where you will be working a 4 day week (in compensation for the weekend work). The hours would be depended on the rota you are on, for example -

Normal Ops day 08:00-18:00 (usually one per week)

Normal Consulting day 09:00-19:00 with 15-minute consults

There will be a regular night duty required, 1 week in 2 (e.g every other Wednesday) the Night Duty will have a midday start, with ward rounds and consulting until 19:00. Then Inpatient care as required, and On-Call overnight to 08:00 (they have a Night Duty Nurse on site all through the night). At 08:00 you will have ward rounds, then inpatients, some consulting and handover, with a finish at 13:00.

The way they calculate the hours for permanent staff is to pay On-Call time at 25% of the normal rate between midnight and 08:00. This means that from Midday one day to 13:00 the following day is equivalent to two 9 hour days, and the vet gets the morning off before an ND, and the afternoon off after an ND.

In addition to this, the role would include a weekend rota of "Short weekends" one week in four, i.e. midday Friday with an On-Call night, through to 16:00 on a Saturday.

In return, our client is offering a competitive salary and benefits that will be discussed at the interview.
