We are currently working with a long-established, independent Veterinary Practice based in Colne, Lancashire, who is looking for a small animal Veterinary Surgeon to join their friendly team on a permanent basis. This recently renovated practice offers a small animal, farm animal, and equine veterinary service to its clients.

The Practice:

Our client is an independent veterinary practice, offering high quality, first opinion veterinary care to small animals, horses and farm animals across Pendle, Burnley and surrounding areas. They are an approved Veterinary Nurse training centre and an approved member of the Royal College Practice Standards Scheme. Our client is proud to offer in-house 24-hour emergency services, 365 days a year.

Their medical and surgical suites have recently undergone extensive renovation. The surgical suite consists of:-

  • Two Theatres
  • Dental Suite
  • Diagnostic suite (including digital radiography, scanners, ECG and endoscopes.)
  • Prep area

The Medical suite includes:-

  • Dog ward
  • Cat ward
  • Isolation
  • Holding kennels
  • Food prep area
  • Laboratory

You will enjoy excellent support and back up from our clients' well-established clinical team. They have team meetings so all staff can contribute to the success of the practice and ensure everyone is listened to.

The Role:

This is a full-time permanent role that includes out of hours and weekends on a rota basis. Their loyal clients appreciate the in-house out of hours service. However, they understand how on-call can impact on work-life balance, so this is spread across the whole team to lessen the burden. They also give generous time off in-lieu and you will not work the following day after a night on-call. Should you also choose to stay at the surgery when on-call, they have on-site accommodation with shower facilities.

The week-end OOH rota is approximately 1.5 in 8 with time off in-lieu:

  • On-call Friday / Work Saturday morning only / Sunday on call, with Monday & Tuesday off in-lieu
  • On-call Saturday, with a Friday off in-lieu
  • Followed by 6 weekends off

In addition, you would be on-call one night a week every other week with the following day off. The rota is on a continuous 8-week cycle allowing you to plan your life ahead. They have an OOH telephone answering service so you will not be taking calls directly. There is also an experienced nurse on-call and recent graduates will be given veterinary back-up OOH. There is CCTV so you can remotely keep an eye on inpatients.

The Remuneration Package:

In return, our client is offering a competitive salary and benefits package that includes:-

  • Enrollment onto Sovereign Healthcare which is a cashback plan and contributes to dentist, opticians, physio and much more.
  • You will have access to an Employee Assistance Programme.
  • You can join their corporate gym membership for only £22.50 a month.
  • They offer a cycle to work scheme.
  • Pets are treated at cost (within reason).
  • An extra day holiday is given for every 3 years’ service up to a maximum of 5 days pro-rata.
  • Opportunity to take unpaid leave to encourage traveling but with the security of a full-time job to come back to.

The Candidate:

Our client is looking for a motivated and ambitious individual with good, all-round vet skills. Ideally, you will have at least 2-years post-graduate experience, but applications from newly-qualified graduates will also be considered.
