We are currently recruiting on behalf of a large, independent veterinary group based in Derby, Derbyshire who is looking for an Inpatient Care Registered Veterinary Nurse to join their team. This is a full-time permanent role which is a extremely rewarding job and you will be able to use a wide range of nursing skills.
Our client is well regarded first opinion small animal veterinary practice that is one of the largest providers of veterinary care locally while maintaining the personal touch. They have 12 practices currently and have recently opened 3 new practices. Their principle site is where they provide first opinion treatments plus referral services for their own clients and other practices. Additionally, they have their own dedicated night teams. The facilities at all sites are contemporary and have a culture of discovery to ensure they stay ahead of the latest findings and recommendations.
Many of their dedicated vets and nurses have further postgraduate qualifications in their area of interest. Their small animal hospital based in Derby is a purpose-built hospital with state of the art facilities. Their amenities include spacious and comfortable wards, isolation wards and an intensive care unit. As well as 5 operating theatres, imaging suite including ultrasound, CT scanner, MRI scanner, and radiography. They are also able to offer a range of specialists and specialist equipment for ophthalmology, dermatology, dentistry, cardiology, and surgery with full rehabilitation and hydrotherapy facilities.
This is a permanent full-time role caring for both primary and referral patients from simple to complex cases. It is an extremely rewarding job and the nurses are able to use a wide range of skills including placing feeding tubes, chest drains, urinary catheters and airway management. You will also be involved in helping to recover patients from procedures and working within a team of inpatient care staff to provide the highest standard of nursing care to these patients.
This role consists of:
- Full-time working 41.50 hours a week Monday to Friday
- Shift times consisting of: 8:30-17:30, 7:15-16:30, 8:30-19:00, 15:00-23:00
- 1 in 6 weekends with two days back in lieu the following week
- Occasional night cover and on-call rota
- 1-2 bank holidays a year

Our client is looking for a qualified Registered Veterinary Nurse who has good communication skills. Experience with working in wards would be ideal for this role but they would provide full training so this wouldn't be an essential requirement. Wards are a busy environment so you would need to be happy working in a fast paced environment and have the ability to prioritise to make sure the best care is provided for all of the patients. Previous experience of placing feeding tubes, urinary catheters etc would be beneficial.
