We are currently recruiting on behalf of a small animal practice based in the Plymouth area in Devon, for a qualified, enthusiastic Deputy Head Nurse. They are currently offering a permanent full-time role for a candidate that will assist the Head Nurse in leading their team of nurses. 

The Practice:

Our client's practice is situated in the heart of Plymouth, close to the city centre and with Dartmoor National Park close by which is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The practice is an RCVS approved training practice with full IDEXX lab equipment, ECG, ultrasound, and x-ray. It is currently undergoing a complete refurbishment of all clinical areas and reception, making it a bright and modern place to work. They are a friendly team consisting of 5 veterinary surgeons, 6 qualified RVNs and 1 second-year student nurse, 5 receptionists.

The Role:

The client is looking for a qualified, enthusiastic Deputy Head Nurse that will assist the Head Nurse in leading their team of nurses. This role will require the post holder to step up and take responsibility of the nursing team in the absence of the Head Nurse. The main responsibilities of the role include organisation of nurse rotas, holiday authorisation and daily planning of day to day tasks with surgical/non-surgical procedures and hospitalised patients. The exact working pattern is to be confirmed, however, this is a full-time position, no OOH, and 1 in 4 Saturday morning.

The Candidate:

A suitable candidate will require a minimum of 4 years post RVN qualification experience. Previous experience of team leadership is preferred but not essential as training can be provided. As an approved training practice the role holder will be required to ensure the training of the student nurses is compliant with RCVS and college standards. Our client is looking for a team leader who is approachable and a great communicator with excellent organisational skills. They are looking for a friendly team player to complement our hard-working team, who pride themselves on getting it right the first time.
