We are working with a small group of practices in the East Grinstead area that are looking for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join them on a full-time permanent basis. This role would require you to work between the practices from time to time

The Practice:

At this practice, they aim to practice the very highest standard of medicine and surgery. They undertake a wide variety of clinical procedures to help them make a diagnosis and then treat any problems that are found. They are a small animal practice based in East Grinstead, West Sussex with two smaller satellite branches in the local area, with nurses sometimes required to travel to branches on days they operate. Their OOH is outsourced to another practice with the phone lines being diverted at 19:00.

They have a friendly team of 7 vets and 9 nurses with a wide range of interests resulting in a fair amount of orthopaedic cases along with frequent use of endoscopy and ultrasonography. They also have an internal lab covering biochemistry and haematology. They are a registered training practice with 3 students and encourage nurses to become clinical coaches if interested.

The Role and Candidate:

This a full-time permanent role and the nurses’ rota is based around a 37.5hr week average with 1 in 5 weekends (no OOHs) and 1 in 7 Saturday mornings. An average weekly rota would consist of the below:-

  • 14:00-22:30 (inpatient care)
  • 07:30-14:30 (Inpatient care)
  • 08:00-18:30 (Theatre shift)
  • 10:00-20:00 (Prep shift)

They run a Saturday morning clinic (09:00-12:00) with a nurse working 08:00-14:00. Inpatient care is divided between the vet and the nurse,  with nurses able to go home in between if they wish. This continues into Sunday with nurses able to come and go to check patients as suitable and discussed with the vet. If there are no inpatients (it does happen now and again!) nurses are able to clear up and leave without returning for the remainder of the weekend. This shift is currently run on a 1 in 5 basis.

They also have a Saturday morning shift (1 in 7) this is a 07:30-14:00 shift and involves inpatient care and assisting during clinic hours.

In return, our client is offering a generous salary and benefits package that will be reflective of experience.
