We are working with a friendly well-established small animal veterinary practice in the St John's Wood area of North London that is looking for Registered Veterinary Nurse to join them in a Head Nurse capacity. This is a permanent full-time position that would suit an experienced RVN that is looking to further their career.

The Practice

Our client has 30 practices across North London, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire, which includes four 24-hour emergency hospitals and a specialist referral centre. They have nearly 300 staff, including specialists in Soft Tissue Surgery, Dermatology and Emergency and Critical Care, staff with certificates in feline practice, and residency trained consultants in anaesthesia and analgesia and internal medicine. This practice is a small branch that sees a varied caseload and has a committed client base. They have a focus on being a fun place to work and take pride in looking after their staff as well as providing brilliant client and patient care.

The Role:

Our client is looking for a Head Veterinary Nurse to join them on a full-time permanent basis. This is a full-time position working 42 hours per week, with weekends of only 1 in 6.

As the Head Nurse, you will uphold excellent clinical standards and deliver exceptional client care. You will lead more junior members of the team and work closely with the Head Vet to optimise the practices' performance in providing caring and empathetic gold standard service to an established client base. The practice is very friendly and sees a very varied caseload. You will be responsible for working to improve the running of the practice where possible for the benefit of clients, staff and the business.

Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Working as a Veterinary Nurse across all areas of the practice (surgery, procedures, organisation of the practice and consultations)
  • Monitoring anaesthetics and assisting with veterinary procedures
  • Ensuring that set nursing practices and protocols are maintained to the current best practice standards and developing new protocols where appropriate
  • Clinical Coach to a second-year student

The Candidate:

Our client is looking for an experienced registered veterinary nurse with an interest in furthering their career in a Head Nurse role in an established practice. You will pride yourself on your outstanding patient care skills including anaesthetic management. You will have working experience of MS Office and a Practice Management System, with excellent client care skills.

As the head nurse, you will have excellent communication skills and the ability to multitask in a busy environment, whilst working well within the team.
