An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head Vet to lead a dedicated team at a well-established veterinary practice in Liverpool. The Role:

  • As a key member of a surgery’s leadership team, this role is responsible for consistently driving exceptional customer service and clinical care whilst promoting pet wellbeing, delivering preventive services, and treating sick and injured pets.
  • This role spearheads continuous improvement of the service capability of the surgery and the upskilling of colleagues in order to become a centre of clinical excellence. In doing so, this role is key to driving turnover and profitability.
  • As the surgery’s senior clinician, this role is responsible for all aspects of clinical governance and for helping to steer the overall direction and unify the clinical culture of our organisation

Working Pattern: Full-time - 4 days per week, 1:4 weekends

OOHS: No out-of-hours work is required, but availability for on-call support for overnight inpatients is necessary

The Candidate: The ideal candidate will be a highly skilled veterinary professional with a passion for delivering exceptional care. As a key member of the management team, the Head Vet will provide strategic leadership, inspire clinical development, and ensure the highest standards of evidence-based care. Strong leadership and coaching skills are essential, along with the ability to support and develop the wider team.

Skills & Capabilities: They are looking for an accomplished all-rounder who can develop and coach clinicians to achieve their full potential whilst demonstrating empathy to create an engaging, supportive, and fun working environment. You will be/have:

  • A first-class GP Vet. With a firm understanding of the importance of a “diagnostic-first” approach, rather than symptomatic therapy.
  • Experience in auditing and leading clinical change from audit processes, complaints, and unexpected significant events.
  • Confidence in engaging with customers and their pets and understanding the benefit of augmenting the owner-pet bond. 
  • A highly engaging and memorable individual who can quickly establish credibility and respect to build strong relationships.
  • Sound commercial acumen.
