Permanent Deputy Head RVN, High Wycombe
We are working with a fully equipped and modernised RCVS accredited practice between High Wycombe and Watford that is looking for an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse to take on the role of Deputy Head Nurse, This role would be ideal for an RVN that is wanting to progress into management but is maybe not quite ready for a Head Nurse position.

Across their 4 sites, they have 13 Veterinary Surgeons, 21 Veterinary Nurses including Student Veterinary Nurses, 13 Veterinary Receptionists, and 5 fantastic support team members. They have lots of members of the veterinary team either engaged in or achieved certificates in oncology, ophthalmology, physiotherapy, dentistry, anaesthesia, emergency and critical care, orthopaedics, small animal medicine, feline medicine, and dermatology. They also have members of the team with special interests in animal behaviour and dog training and of course wellbeing. As a practice, they actively support several different charities both locally and nationally each year including StreetVet, Marjorie Nash Cat Rescue, and Macmillan Cancer Support.
The Role and Candidate
Our client is looking for an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse to take on the role of Deputy Head Nurse based between two of their branches. You will be expected to support the head nurse in the leadership and the day-to-day running of the team while continuing to uphold the high standards of nursing care. This is a full-time role of 40 hours per week including a 1:5 weekend rotation. The out-of-hours cover is currently very minimal being an evening on-call until 9 pm Monday – Friday and Saturday and Sunday after-hours on-call are covered by an external out-of-hours provider.
The successful candidate will either have previous experience of being a Deputy Head Nurse or be an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse who has an interest in management and is looking for the next step in progressing their career. It is essential to have excellent communication skills while being supportive, assertive, and positive. Previous experience in a similar role would be desired but not essential as they are able to offer training and support for the right candidate.
