Permanent Experienced Veterinary Surgeon Full or Part-time - Burscough

We are working on behalf of a client who is looking for a permanent experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join their growing team based in a large village outside Ormskirk, Lancashire. This role can either be on a full or part-time basis.

The Practice:

This small animal practice is based in a lovely location near Ormskirk, West Lancashire. They are 20 minutes from the beach and surrounded by lots of countryside walks, pubs and great places to eat. Also, they are only 40 minutes from Liverpool city centre and 40 minutes from Preston city centre. In a lovely rural community with easy bus and train links, they have excellent local schools and lots of amenities. They are a close-knit team of two full-time vets, one practice manager, four RVN’s, two SVN’s, one VCA, and two admin staff. Their large nurse : vet ratio means they utilise their nurses to their full potential; they run a range of chargeable clinics and perform a variety of schedule 2 procedures. Each member of the team has their own interests and they are keen to help them progress with the things they love. They look out for each other and their diary is targeted towards individual clinician’s needs and wants. One thing they are really proud of is their low staff turnover. To maintain this they aim to create a good work: life balance, constantly striving to better their practise environment and encourage everyone to be honest when they don’t get it right. They don’t want anyone taking problems home with them and are open to ideas on how they can improve both in a non-clinical and clinical setting.

The Role and Candidate:

As they are a small team, they are looking for someone who wants to work at building relationships within the team (they understand not everyone wants to be best mates with their colleagues, but being comfortable in your work environment and with the people you will be seeing on a daily basis is important to them). You will be able to perform dentals, routine soft tissue operations, basic emergency surgeries, and medical work-ups. You will have a large nursing team available so they want you to respect their valuable knowledge and make the most of their skills. You will be a team player who will help to motivate the team to learn, develop, and therefore grow as a practice. You will have a positive attitude to work and a methodical approach to the running of your day - you will be able to manage your time and priorities to ensure you get the work done. They don’t want someone who will work themselves into the ground, as this doesn’t benefit anyone. Instead, they want someone who loves being a vet and understands it can sometimes be hard, but trusts their team to help see them through those difficult days. You will want to develop relationships with clients to help guide them in understanding the right decisions to make when treating and caring for their pet. They want someone to maintain the bonds that they have already developed with clients, whether that’s discussing their dog’s vaccination or their child’s performance at school! That bond is crucial to their practice ethos.

The Role:

A typical day starts at 8.30 with in-patient admits followed by morning consults

They operate Monday-Friday so the role includes a share the surgery rota

Followed by evening consults and time to catch up on any admin and client calls

Some charity work with a rescue organisation and local Cats Protection team

Currently working in one of two covid “bubble” teams, eventually moving to a more mixed team rota

Set shift pattern but some flexibility with the rota to make it work for all

Weekday hours are 8.30-19.30

Weekend hours are Saturday 9.00-17.00, Sunday 10.00-16.00

No OOH (covered by a local independent practice’s 24h hospital)

Our client will consider part-time or full-time hours - anything between 25-40 hours per week

The Package:
