Permanent Head Veterinary Nurse, Angus

Type: Small Animal

Location: Small group of practices along the coast of Angus in Scotland

Practice Type: An independent group of practices that provides veterinary services for all domestic pets

Facilities/Services: Our client constantly strives to meet the expectations of owners while keeping the needs and welfare of their pets as their number one priority. Their staff is highly committed and they try to offer the best service they can at all times. They have various diagnostic aids on-site including x-ray, ultrasound, and a comprehensive in-house laboratory with the facility to return results in less than 15 minutes in an emergency situation.

Team: You will be joining a lovely team of 2 Veterinary Surgeons, 3 RVNS, VCA, and a team of support staff.

Role: This role is for a Head Veterinary Nurse

Summary of the Role:

  • Responsible and accountable for leading the Nursing, Auxiliary, and Reception team.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the nursing and auxiliary team management including, but not limited to: recruitment and selection, development, performance management, appraisal, and absence management in line with Company policy.
  • To act as a role model to all staff, demonstrating clinical and leadership credibility/
  • Ensure a culture of high-level customer service is instilled in all members of the nursing, auxiliary, and reception team.
  • Act as the Health & Safety Lead for the practice.

Hours: This is a full-time position, where you will be working 4 or 5 full days (although they can be more flexible for the ideal candidate)

Weekends/OOHS: To be discussed in the interview

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain professional nursing standards in accordance with RCVS guidelines.
  • Responsible for the supervision and management of the nursing team in accordance with professional and RCVS standards.
  • Manage the team by organising the duty rota according to department needs, including covering absences at branch surgeries and on-call duties as required.
  • Approve overtime and report this to the Practice Manager week before month-end.
  • To provide consistent, clear, clinical, and professional leadership and act as a mentor for all staff.
  • To provide clinical training and mentoring to nursing and auxiliary staff as required.
  • Create a clear and effective two-way communication within the nursing team ensuring all team members are kept up to date.
  • Arrange annual servicing for equipment in the clinic and ensure that all service records for equipment are up to date. 
  • Ensure the maintenance of the hospital in a safe and hygienic condition with effective monitoring procedures.
  • Point of contact for VMD inspection/queries in Montrose.

Salary: The salary for this is up to £16 per hour DOE
