Exciting opportunity for sole charge, Head Veterinary Surgeon position in a well-equipped community-based practice.

As head vet you will be responsible for the day to day running and performance of the practice and to lead the team located in Royston and Meldreth, Cambridgeshire.

The Practice:

Situated next to the station close to the town centre, the practice provides first class veterinary care to the pets of the town and surrounding villages. The friendly team have established a loyal client following in the heart of the community. With full diagnostic and surgical facilities on site, they can provide all levels of care from vaccinations and health advice to more different problems.

Our client as 30 practices across North London, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire, which includes four 24-hour emergency hospitals and a specialist referral centre. They have nearly 300 staff, including specialists in Soft Tissue Surgery, Dermatology and Emergency and Critical Care, staff with certificates in feline practice, and residency trained consultants in anaesthesia and analgesia and internal medicine.

The Role:

Your standard working hours will be 45 hours per week, working shifts within the practice opening hours. You will also be part of the weekend rota too, working 1 in 2 Saturday mornings 09:00-13:00. As the head vet you will be responsible for the day to day running and performance of the practices and to lead the teams in these branches.

Your main responsibilities will include-

PATIENT/CLINICAL CARE - Delivering a high level of clinical care to standards in conjunction with the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme (Including but not limited to holding consultations and diagnosing animals, performing surgery, administering anaesthesia, undertaking scans, prescribing and euthanises where necessary)

CLIENT CARE - The delivery of client satisfaction to an exceptional level as defined by the group. This includes making all your interactions with clients fully focused on delivering value, exceptional service and warmth to the clients

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT – Making sure that your work fully supports the objective of ensuring the practice runs effectively and efficiently

TEAMWORK – Working within your Vet team, and wider hospital team, to contribute your skills, efforts and personal strengths to help always ensure a harmonious team ethos

The Candidate:

This is an exciting opportunity for a Lead Veterinary Surgeon to join an excellent team. You will have a strong small animal medical and surgical experience, with experience of working in a sole charge role in a busy practice. You will also have the ability to lead the teams with an awareness of the operational aspects of the practice that affect the practice profitability.

It would be beneficial that you have an understanding and experience of a head vet position and previous experience of managing a team.
