We are working with an independent mixed practice in the Oswestry area of Shropshire that is looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join them on a full-time permanent basis. Their caseload is approximately 45% Small animal, 45% farm, 15% equine and all the vets find this is a great balance to allow them to develop their knowledge and skills across species disciplines.

The Practice:

Are you looking for a change of scenery, a new lifestyle, and new challenges.?

Our client is based in the lovely town in the Oswestry area of Shropshire that borders North Wales with its attractions of mountains, surf, and deserted beaches. The practice is a stone's throw away from one of several large lakes, with opportunities for wild swimming, sailing, fishing, bird watching, and great walks along with the myriad of public footpaths and canals. In the distance are the Berwyn mountains with stunning high walks along Offa’s Dyke Path and home to Black Grouse.

This is a fully independent mixed practice, and currently, employs 5 assistant veterinary surgeons who are supported by the two veterinary directors. They hold Tier 2 MRCVS Practice Standards certification across the species (ambulatory equine). They have modern, well-equipped premises with 2 consultation rooms (with planning permission to expand to 3), a dirty ops/prep, a dedicated theatre, and a diagnostic laboratory. They also have dedicated cat and dog kennels with surveyance cameras.

The Role and Candidate:

Our client is looking for someone preferably with previous mixed practice experience, but they are willing to consider and support candidates that wish to broaden their horizons. It goes without saying that they are seeking an enthusiastic, committed candidate to take part fully in all aspects of the work, but individual preferences can be accommodated.

The role is full-time where you will be working a 4.5-day working week with 1 in 5 weekday OOH (with backup always available) and 1 in 5 weekends on-call. You will receive an extra half-day off after working a weekend, with a long weekend off every 10 weeks.

The rota allows for a fair share of the workload, each assistant vet has an ops day per week, consulting and large animal calls including TB testing are equally shared.

The Package:

In return, our client is offering a very competitive package that includes:

  • Salary £30,000-50,000 p/a dependent on experience
  • RCVS, VDS, BVA fees & membership of a society of your choice funded
  • CPD £1000 allowance & 5 days in addition to holiday entitlement
  • 20 days holiday plus Bank holidays
  • Car and accommodation can be provided as part of the package
