Permanent Mixed Veterinary Surgeon - Chesterfield

We are currently working with an independent practice in the Chesterfield area in Derbyshire that is looking for a mixed vet to join their team on a permanent full-time basis. They have positions available for a small animal and mixed practice 60% small animal and 40% large.

The Practice:

The practice was established in the 1960s and has been providing exceptional levels of care to the surrounding areas ever since. They are a 5-vet mixed practice, caring for domestic species, horses, and farm animals. They are a veterinary nurse training practice and provide EMS placements to veterinary students.

The small animal department provides veterinary examinations and health checks, new puppy and kitten health checks, vaccinations, microchipping, pet passport scheme, nurse clinics, in house laboratory for blood, urine, and skin testing, dental equipment, X-rays, ultrasound, endoscopy, ECG, blood pressure monitoring and 24-hour emergency service.

The farm department carries out routine and pre-movement TB testing, pregnancy diagnosis/scanning, food trimming, herd health planning, fecal worm egg counts, disease investigations, 24-hour emergency service.

For equine they provide vaccinations, microchipping, passports, and 24-hour emergency service.

The Role and Candidate:

This is a full-time, permanent, mixed veterinary surgeon position. The mix is approximately 60:40 small animal to large animal which mainly comprises of cattle and sheep with the occasional equine patient.

The role includes 1:4 weekends and 1:5 weekdays on call.

The successful candidate will be comfortable with routine surgical procedures and enjoy building good relationships with colleagues and clients. You will have a positive attitude and want to progress and develop your knowledge and skills further.

The Package:

  • Salary up to £55,000 dependent on experience
  • Accommodation allowance £6,600
  • Vehicle or vehicle allowance of £2,500
  • CPD allowance £1,500 plus 3 days CPD leave
  • RCVS, BVS VDS fees paid
  • 5 weeks annual leave plus bank holidays
