Permanent Registered Veterinary Nurse, Leeds
We are working with a small group of small animal veterinary practices in the Leeds area of West Yorkshire that is looking to recruit a full-time Registered Veterinary Nurses to join them on a permanent basis. They are looking for RVNS to work in their busy, fast paced hospital. You will be part of a large team of RVNs, SVNs, and PCAs who carry out Medical and Surgical shifts.
Our client has 4 clinics and 1 Tier 3 accredited veterinary hospital that has been providing a high standard of veterinary services to the Leeds area for over 40 years. They are continually updating their facilities and investing in equipment. They are also extremely proud of all their team and it is a credit to their commitment and compassion that they can provide this level of care to pets.
Three of the five branches have operating facilities, two of the branches can perform neutering and routine surgical procedures along with x-rays and laboratory tests. All of the clinics have fully stocked dispensaries.
The Role and Candidate:
As you will be working with primary care and referral vets (plus seeing the critical care / emergency cases admitted overnight) you will find the case load varied and extremely interesting.
The start times are between 8am and 11.30am and they work a 40-hour week. You will be working closely with the Nursing Team leaders in order to maintain excellent nursing standards. The rota shifts are rolling to ensure all staff share medical / surgical and shift times.
They work 1:4 weekends (5-6 nurses on at any one time with PCA and reception cover provided) and are given a day off either side of the weekend. There is some Bank Holiday work shared between all RVNs. They have a dedicated night team of vets / RVNs / PCAs and receptionists.
They positively encourage the development of leadership opportunities with an obvious career path supported by senior staff and excellent CPD. We are a big nurse Training Practice with a dedicated RVN who our Clinical Coach / Education Team Lead.
MEDICAL: They have 2 Medical Team lead RVNs and a Practice Nurse / front of House Team lead.
The inpatients are cared for by a team 2 vets, 6 RVNs, and a PCA/SVN, supported by a lab technician. You will be part of the handover process from the day / night teams and play an important part in the daily ward rounds. The medical team liases closely with the vets from other specialties including oncology / chemotherapy, cardiology. Their referral physiotherapist is always happy to advise on specialist needs of inpatients. A number of the RVNs have Advanced diplomas or certs in SAN or ECC. Many animals (mainly dogs, cats and rabbits) are referred for a variety of reasons - ketotic diabetics, IMHA/IMHT, blood transfusions, tube feeding, chest drain management etc. to name a few.
SURGICAL: The surgical patients are cared for by a large team of vets and a team of 9 – 12 RVNs, an SVN, and a PCA, supported by a lab technician.
As a busy primary care / referral / emergency and critical care centre they see a wide variety of routine procedures. In addition to these they see cases for imaging (X-ray, CT, ultrasound, with a visiting MRI), endoscopy / exploratory surgery, orthopaedic, soft tissue, oncology surgical cases and dentistry.
You will need to be positive, flexible, and enthusiastic, have excellent communication skills, and an ability to work as part of a large surgical / medical team. Further qualifications are desirable but NOT essential and further support and training is provided should it be needed.
Relevant training is encouraged, and they have a wide range of high quality CPD available from the Group PCA, RVN and vet education departments.
