We are working with a lovely veterinary practice in Cardiff that is looking for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join them on a full-time permanent basis. Our client is looking for an RVN to join their hospital nursing team with a role that includes both general hospital nursing duties, as well as dedicated responsibility for the radioactive iodine unit.

The Practice:

Our client is looking for vets with a passion for outstanding first opinion care to join a team of 17 vets with wide clinical interests. They are a group that is constantly striving to provide the best possible care for their patients, their owners, and their teams.

They have 5 sites in and around the Cardiff area, one of which is a hospital and they are hoping to have this reopened in 2021 (this was closed due to damage in Storm Dennis).

All of their sites are fully equipped with a wide range of modern therapies and technologies including ultrasound, digital x-ray, digital dental x-ray, and access to shared radiosurgery units. This allows the branches to be fully self-sufficient to work up and treat their own cases with the 24/7 support of the hospital.

The hospital provides state of the art facilities such as CT, endoscopy, and endo-surgery (key-hole), orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery, exotics referrals, medical referrals, dedicated dog, cat, exotic and ICU wards, and a physiotherapy department including hydrotherapy. They are also on track to launch a radioactive iodine unit in Spring 2021- the first of its kind in Wales!

The Role and Candidate:

The successful applicant will be responsible for the day to day organisation of the Radioactive Iodine Unit department. Duties would include booking in procedures, collating patient histories, and lab results from referring practices as well as practicing and maintaining the strictest health and safety standards. The successful candidate will have exceptional cat handling skills and a passion for gold standard cat-friendly care and developing a first-class referral service. You should be meticulous to detail, with exceptional interpersonal skills.

Previous RIU experience is not essential as training will be provided. However, a passion for exceptional cat care and providing a high-level referral service are crucial.

The role would be 40hrs over a 5 day week. They are currently closed on Saturdays but their nurses are contracted to work 1 in 4 Saturday mornings at the branch surgeries. There is no requirement for their nurses to work any out of hours, although they can work with you to ‘opt-in’ to some weekend day shifts at the 24/7 hospital site if desired.

The Package:

All of their employees benefit from a workplace pension, health benefit scheme, £500 CPD, and 3 days CPD. Holidays that include 20 days (pro-rata) of bookable annual leave. RCVS/VDS fees paid and a company sick pay scheme.

The salary that our client is offering would be dependent on experience/skill level.
