We are working with a charity practice in Portsmouth, Hampshire that is looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join them on a full-time permanent basis. This is a full-time permanent role that would suit a candidate that strives to provide a high standard of client and clinical care.

The Practice:

Founded in 1917 by animal welfare pioneer, Maria Dickin CBE, PDSA is the UK’s leading veterinary charity. Operating through a UK-wide network of 48 Pet Hospitals, PDSA provides low cost and free veterinary care to the sick and injured pets of people in need and promotes responsible pet ownership.

It's a busy hospital with a team of 7 full time and 1 part-time vet and a fabulous support team of 7 Vet Nurses, 8 Veterinary Care Assistants, and a wonderful reception team. The hospital looks great having just had its front of the house and consultation rooms refurbished and also boasts a new ultrasound machine, endoscopy, and new digital X-Ray. Caseload is varied- see more in a year than you will in a career!

The Role:

Our client is looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join them on a full-time permanent basis, where you will be working 37.5 hours per week. With a 4 day working week, two of which are short days, there is plenty of time for the important things in life. Some of their shifts can be done remotely, and when working from home you can organise your day to suit you. And switching off after work to fully recharge is so important, so they are happy to say they have no on-call commitments. (Part-time hours would also be considered).

Within this role, you will be responsible for the delivery of an efficient, professional, and caring service to clients, providing a high standard of customer service and clinical care whilst also promoting pet wellbeing and delivering preventive services.

Your personal and professional development is extremely important to them, and they understand that it’s critical to nurture talent. Their current focus on treating sick and injured pets means that there has never been a better time for you to get hands-on experience with all those conditions you learned about at college but thought you’d never see – and their high and very varied surgical caseload means that gone are the days when your board is full of neuters and dentals!

The Candidate:

The successful candidate will be an RCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon and responsible for updating their knowledge by attending regular CPD training. You will be involved in all aspects of clinical governance at the Pet Hospital, responsible for managing cases cost-effectively, encouraging financial contributions from clients, and making sure that resources are used appropriately.

The Remuneration Package:

In return, our client is offering a package worth between £33,281 - £47,227 (including allowances) per annum (based on 37.5 hours per week) that includes:

  • Allocated CPD funding of 37.5 hours
  • 5 weeks annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Contributory Pension Scheme
  • RCVS fees paid in full
  • Staff Car Parking
  • Life assurance – 4 x annual salary
  • Part-time and job share working

Your safety is a priority in these challenging times and is reassured that they are doing all they can to protect colleagues and clients. There are comprehensive safe ways of working in place across all of their hospitals with all the guidance, support and equipment you need to do your job safely and successfully.

It’s not just about the physical environment, they care about your well-being and provide lots of tools and support for you and your family to feel safe and supported whatever your circumstances.
