We are working with a well-established and respected veterinary practice in the Melrose area of the Scottish Borders that is looking for an experienced small animal Veterinary Surgeon to join their friendly practice. This is a full-time permanent role that would suit a friendly Vet that is enthusiastic with great communication skills.

The Practice:

Our client is well-established in not only the local area but also well known to provide their expertise to practices across the UK. Over the years the practice has gradually expanded and developed and has now moved to well-equipped practice where they treat all animals great and small.

They endeavor to keep the practice at the heart of the community whilst striving to offer the highest possible standards of care to clients and their animals.

They are well equipped with DR x-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, and dental x-ray available as well as a full suite of laboratory equipment in-house. The small animal team is supported by 8 qualified RVN. Appointment times 15/20minutes per consult

The Role and Candidate:

Our client is looking for a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join their team to allow for a permanent expansion of consulting times to 15/20min per appointment. The role will involve consulting as well as surgery and time will be allocated for lab reporting and phone calls during the day. There will be a requirement to do an evening surgery and branch practice clinics once a week. Phones are diverted to an answering service. A nurse is always on call to support the vets out of hours. In lieu of on-call duties, the successful candidate will have a half-day once a week and the Friday off the weekend after being on-call.

The role is 40hrs per week; no weekend clinics - they provide their own OOH cover with a 1:10 on-call rota for small animals only with time back in lieu.

The successful candidate should be enthusiastic and friendly and have good communication skills. Be happy to work as part of a team and also be self-motivated and driven to provide the best service for patients and clients alike.

The Package:

In return, our client offers a competitive salary that is reflective of experience and a benefits package that includes:

  • RCVS, VDS, BVA, and journal subscription of your choice funded.
  • Annual CPD allowance of £1000 and 5 days funded; however, if a candidate would like to study for a further qualification this would be supported by the practice.
  • Time back in lieu of on-call with a half-day every week and a Friday off after a weekend on call.
  • 35 days holiday per annum.
