Permanent Veterinary Surgeon - Bridgend

Due to continuing organic growth, our client is recruiting for a full-time Veterinary Surgeon to join their practice based in South Wales, around the Bridgend area on a permanent basis. The practice has a large, experienced, and lovely team that works together within their busy hospital.

The Practice:

The current practice team is made up of 14 vets. They have a supportive team that works hard and socialises together, there is a healthy mix of newly qualified vets and highly experienced vets.

This means if you are newly qualified they have experience with training new grads and can support this exciting start to your career. They are a busy practice with a varied caseload, this has enabled some of their graduate vets to complete their PDP within a year.

For an experienced veterinary surgeon, they offer the opportunity to expand surgical experience through a busy and varied surgical list, gain sole charge experience at the branch level, further enhance medical knowledge via their busy hospital ward and in-house emergency service. They are fully supportive of further training ambitions and certificates are encouraged.

The team contains multiple certificate holders, both vets, and nurses. In addition, they collaborate with visiting specialists in cardiology and ophthalmology. As a result, we are very fortunate not to refer many cases and to provide a full and varied in-house service.

The Role:

This is a full-time permanent position that will include a weekend rota of 1 in 4.

They pride themselves on providing a full out of hours’ emergency service and this is shared on a rota basis.

Full-time, 08:00-17:00, 09:00-18:00 or 10:00-19:00 (when not on-call). Working on a shared rota which includes on-call as follows:

  • Mon & Tues on call – from 4 pm each day until 8 am the next morning and off Wednesday/Thursday
  • Wed & Thurs on call – from 4 pm each day until 8 am the next morning and off Friday
  • Weekend on-call – Fri/Sat/Sun from 2 pm until 9 am each day off on Monday/Tuesday

However, the practice believes in true work/life balance and to ensure their Vets get this balance right there is rota’d days off after OOH work. While on-call you have the support of a senior vet as “back up” to discuss cases, assist you, and attend if required.

They have a great team of nurses who will support you. This includes a head nurse, a specialist theatre nurse, 8 RVN’s, and 8 SVN’s. Their fantastic nurses are here 24-7 and answer the out of hour’s calls. This means that you’re on-call duty only involves the actual emergency work.

The Package:

In return for all your hard work and dedication, our client is offering a competitive package that includes:

  • Competitive salary package
  • CPD allowance
  • RCVS fees paid
  • 5 weeks holiday.

Based in beautiful South Wale with quick access to the beautiful welsh coastline for great surfing, coastal walks, and many other water sports. An hour away from the beautiful Brecon Beacons mountain range with its hiking trails and an annual Jazz festival. They are close to Cardiff – which is has been voted 3rd most liveable city in the UK! London is accessible through a 2-hour train trip.
