Permanent Veterinary Surgeon - Manchester

You might not have heard about them yet – they’re the only Community Interest veterinary group in the UK. They believe that a lot of pet owners are struggling to afford veterinary care, and they know there is another way. Not-for-profit veterinary care means that, instead of maximising profits, they want to maximise the care they can provide to their patients, owners, and staff. If you love your job but don’t feel like you are making a difference, this could be the right employer for you.

Type: Small Animal

Location: Manchester

Practice: Their business model means that they see a lot of interesting cases, but they also need to see a lot of those cases in order to maintain operating profit. You’ll probably see more emergencies than preventative care. They are constantly evaluating ways to safeguard their employees when it comes to their mental health. They offer an employee assistance program that allows you to access mental health support from a team of specialised professionals, along with a 24/7 online GP.

Role:

  • They're looking for a vet who wants to bring their expertise to the practice and would relish working with a certificate holder lead vet, together with a close-knit friendly team of vets and nurses.
  • Their surgery is currently an 8 consulting room, 3 theatre facility that is about to be extended to satisfy the demand for their services, which include endoscopy and orthopaedics.

Skills/Exp:

  • They’re looking for somebody who loves being a vet.
  • A belief in their mission is so important - you must have the ability to focus on the pets you save, who wouldn’t normally have been able to see you.
  • You know that a good consultation is about efficiently working out a solution, and you believe in the expertise of the RVNs you work with.

Hours: This is a full-time role

Weekend/OOHS: They have their own in-house OOH provision means have continuity of case

Sole Charge: None

Branch Work: None

Salary scale: £37,000 - £54,000 (plus advanced scale for certificate holders)

Package:

  • 6 weeks holiday, including bank holidays
  • The UK and International CPD funded to certificate level
  • Private Health Care, 52 Weeks sickness benefit, and free Employee assistance program — awarded after qualifying period
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • RCVS and VDS fees paid
  • Access to counseling support including mental health, financial, and life counseling after 12 months of service
  • Cycle-to-work scheme
  • Refer-a-Friend bonus
