Permanent Veterinary Surgeon - North Walsham, Norfolk

Type: Small Animal and exotic pets

Location: North Walsham, Norfolk

Practice: They are a small animal and exotics practice that also offers referral services for exotic pets, CT scanning, laser therapy, physiotherapy, and Dermatology and care for a couple of local zoo collections. They also provide vet services for a local RSPCA clinic 1.5 days a week to support their local community. Their consults are 15 minutes with 30 minutes for euthanasia or more complex cases etc. Their vets also have protected admin time.

Team: They are looking for a 5th Veterinary surgeon to expand their current 4 vet team. Their vets have a great support team including 10 RVNs.

Facilities/Services:

  • They are proudly independent and strive to offer fantastic patient and client care.
  • They are accredited Gold Feline Friendly and Gold Rabbit Friendly and are proud to have won the Burgess Rabbit Practice of the Year award.
  • The practice has a separate cat, dog, and exotic pet waiting areas and wards, dedicated operating theatres and prep room, laser therapy unit, on-site C.T. scanner, digital x-ray, dental x-ray, ultrasound, video endoscopy, tonometry, multiparameter units, etc and a memory garden.
  • One of the Directors spends part of the week in a Zoo and often you will see unusual animals in the practice - like Red Pandas

Role: They are seeking a veterinary surgeon with a passion for patient and client care and a friendly approachable personality. They are open to a medical or surgical bias or a consult-only role.

Hours: They would be able to accommodate a full-time (4-day week) or part-time role for the right candidate. Their days include an hour's lunch break and additional time for admin/lab reports/phone calls.

OOHS: They do provide out-of-hours care for their clients as this helps them to provide the highest standard of care for patients but their on-call is very quiet.

Candidate:

  • Experience in exotics is beneficial but definitely not essential!
  • Their 4 vets all have many years of experience so they can support a newer graduate or help a less confident/experienced vet grow their skills and fulfill their dreams.
  • All their vets have particular areas of interest and they are happy to support, invest and encourage these.
  • You will have the independence to work up and treat your own cases but also full support whenever needed.

Salary: They offer a very generous salary dependent on experience

Benefits: A range of benefits including:

  • Rotas to include 4 day weekends off work each month,
  • Funded webinar vet membership,
  • VDS, RCVS,
  • CPD,
  • BUPA healthcare,
  • Pension
  • Additional benefits (including additional sick days and additional holiday days) with the length of employment.
