Permanent Veterinary Surgeon - Small Animal

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established practice in Mid Hampshire that is looking for a confident small animal Veterinary Surgeon to join their team.

The Practice:

Our client is an established, caring family-orientated practice serving mid-Hampshire that has grown rapidly with more than 10 vets and 15 RVN/SVNs at its state-of-the-art facilities in the centre of town. The practice provides comprehensive care to clients and their animals, from giant breed dogs to small mammals and exotics. They are privately owned, which enables them to put pet care first and evolve as Veterinary medicine improves.

Facilities within the practice include Theatre, separate dog and cat wards, CT scanners, laparoscopic surgery, x-ray, endoscope, imaging, ultrasound, and orthopaedic equipment.

Their success has been based on an ethos of allowing vets and nurses to thrive and develop their interests to maximise their capabilities and an award-winning client care approach - they believe in treating each client and pet as individuals and with the same care and respect as treating their own pets. Case continuity is mandatory!

The Role:

They are very proud to provide their own out-of-hours service so they can continue their care 24/7. To make this work better for all they have a team of junior vets who provide out-of-hours in-patient care and immediate emergency triage and care while their senior vets provide backup support for them. On-call is based on a 1:4 rota and you would be working with either small animals or exotics (but not both!).

This is a full-time role where you would have a 4 1/2 day working week with an additional half-day every four weeks giving a long weekend off.

CPD is essential and they have a very open policy where 35 hours is a minimum…not a maximum! If it’s good for you and the practice - they will fund more each year. The catch - please share your learning with your colleagues! They also fund BSAVA and RCVS memberships each year.

The Duties:

They are busy and life can be stressful but they can provide a strong supportive team to work in, the opportunity to achieve good job satisfaction, and very friendly clients(mostly!). If you come and work with them you will develop your clinical skills and have the opportunity to work up cases to a very high level. You will be supported in further studies and in achieving clinical certificates or Masters in veterinary practice. While they encourage independent working there is always support from senior colleagues at all hours.

They are very inclusive and support diversity. They also are licensed to sponsor overseas visa applications.

The Candidate:

  • The small animal position is for anyone who has passed PDP/GDP stage and has a desire to develop their interests and career in small animal practice.
  • They are keen to fund and support Certificate Masters in veterinary practice studies.
  • They have a busy caseload and an experienced support team who enjoy helping younger colleagues develop.
  • They have advanced facilities and experience in many different areas so whatever your interests- medicine, surgery, ophthalmology, etc they can provide you a caseload!
  • They have excellent imaging facilities (x-ray, ultrasound, CT, and endoscopy) so if imaging is your area this could well be the position for you!

The Package:

The remuneration package is competitive with salaries between £38,000 and £60,000 per annum depending on experience and level of support required. They are happy to accommodate flexible and part-time working wherever possible but do need applicants who can join the out-of-hours rota.
