Permanent Veterinary Surgeon - Southampton

We are working with a strong independent group that is looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join their practice in Southampton on a full-time permanent basis. They are looking for an experienced Vet with circa 4 years of post-graduate experience.

The Practice:

This practice is a strong Independent practice where clinical decisions are not constrained by corporate ethos thus allowing the team clinical freedom. Their facilities include a large well-equipped Small Animal Hospital with two branch surgeries, plus an associated Equine Clinic. They have all the usual diagnostic equipment – DR x-ray, endoscopes, Ultrasound, dental inc Dental x-ray, full laparoscopic surgical capability, plus much more.

Team-wise they have:

  • 12 SA vet FT equivalent with 18+ VNs provides a supportive family atmosphere and a mentoring scheme for colleagues with less experience. 
  • 3 Ophthalmology Certificate holders – operating a full referral service to the South of England to include cataract surgery 
  • Orthopaedics consultant – working 2-3 days a week. 
  • External Exotics consultant.
  • Multiple senior nurses with diplomas in surgery, anaesthesia, emergency medicine.

Beautiful area to live in with plenty of outdoor opportunities and a National Park.

The Role and Candidate: 

This is a full-time permanent position that does require Out of Hours cover as part of the practice's commitment to clients and there is 24/7 on-site VN support. To give the greatest flexibility to their team the OOHs weeknight/weekend rota is shared between 8-10 vets in different combinations, with generous time off in lieu of OOHs work. 

The on-call rota contribution is negotiable for PT positions and flexible working patterns can be accommodated. 

Our client is looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with circa 4 years of in-practice experience. This role is based mainly in the hospital but you may occasionally be required to cover one of the branches.

The Package:

In return, our client is offering a salary that is commensurate with experience, and benefits that include: OOHs bonus, RCVS / BSAVA fees, and 6.6 weeks holiday inc Bank Holidays on a pro-rata basis

CPD is actively encouraged and funded with Certificate study / Advanced Practitioner status also being very well supported and holders financially recognised. When undertaking a certificate, the time allowed is 10 days per year for 3 years, and the financial support package is negotiated.
