We are currently working with a well-established small animal practice, with two surgeries across the West Midlands who are looking to take on a permanent full-time Veterinary Surgeon.
Both locations are RCVS accredited small animal practices, and the main site is also a Registered Veterinary Nurse Training practice. They have nine full-time experienced veterinary surgeons, who work together to provide a wide range of veterinary skills to care for their patients. Each member of the team has their own area of special interest, allowing them to provide a high standard of clinical care. Many of the vets are studying for, or have already achieved advanced veterinary qualifications. Three of the vets are certificate holders in Surgery, Cardiology and Ophthalmology respectively. The practice provides their own emergency service for clients outside of normal operating hours between 8:30 am and 11.00 pm seven days a week. Between 11.00 pm and 8:30 am emergency care is covered by an external provider.
The practice has two operating theatres and a large surgical prep area at its main site, as well as having an operating theatre at its branch site. At the main site, they have heated operating tables, surgical lighting and piped-in gases for anaesthesia and surgical tools. They have a full range of facilities including Radiography, Diagnostic Ultrasound, Endoscopy, Electrocardiogram, In-house blood testing, Ophthalmology, Dentistry and more.
They are looking to take on a permanent veterinary surgeon to work full-time. Working hours are between 8:30 am and 7.00 pm, and the vet would be required to work 4.5 days per week. There is a rota of 1:4 Saturday mornings working from 8:30 am to 1.00 pm, as well as a full weekend rota of 1:8 working Saturdays from 8:30 am to 5.00 pm and Sundays from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm as well as covering out of hours until 11.00 pm. After working a full weekend, the vet will be given the next full working week off.
The practice covers their own out of hours between 8:30 am and 11.00 pm, and there is one night of out of hours shift required per week. After 11.00 pm emergency care is covered by an external provider.
Days are a mixture of consults and operations, these are run on a rota. Some sole charge at the branch may be required but only once the vet is comfortable working under these conditions.
The ideal candidate will be a friendly and motivated vet, with excellent communication skills. The practice is willing to consider applicants from 2017 graduates to more experienced vets. They are willing to offer a package of between £30,000 to £60,000 depending on experience, as well as uncapped CPD funding, pension scheme, and between 9 and 10 weeks of holiday per year (including time back in lieu after working full weekends). This is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside some extremely talented vets in a fantastic practice.
