The Vet

Why work at The Vet?

If you’re looking for a truly exciting opportunity to progress your career and make gold-standard vet care accessible to all, then you’re in the right place. We know that many of you are frustrated right now because you don’t have the professional development, culture and facilities that you need to thrive. At The Vet we put the best possible investment in our people and our clinics, giving you the support and space you need to become the vet you’ve always wanted to be.

SHAPE THE FUTURE OF VET CARE

“It’s very collaborative here and every member of the team has a say in the models and services delivered. We invest to help people with ideas to progress – there’s so much potential and we embrace this opportunity.” Jenna Covill, Veterinary Business Manager, The Vet Nottingham

“The Vet doesn’t accept the established way of doing things – you’ve got a massive opportunity to make a difference and do things differently.” Sophie Halhead, Clinical Director, The Vet Bristol

At The Vet we believe in doing things differently for the benefit of pets, customers and our people. Join us to help us shape the future of vet care.

The Vet was founded with a belief in doing things differently to help more animals and their humans enjoy life together. Ours is a modern, progressive approach that works for everyone – pets, customers and those delivering vet care. Some people worry that a no-appointment system is chaotic, but this simply isn’t the case. Customers love our modern approach and our vets say their clients here are some of the happiest they’ve ever worked with.

In an increasingly fast-paced world, we believe the traditional appointment model practice no longer works for the lives we all lead. We offer a no-appointment system because this means we can offer greater flexibility and convenience for our customers – and our people too. No appointments means that clinical teams don’t have to worry about running late for their next appointment. Instead you get to take the time you need with each animal.

Our opening hours are 8am-8pm Monday to Friday and 9am-4:30pm Saturday and Sunday. We’re also trialling night shifts and out of hours, after they were suggested by our team. This means customers can visit us as and when they need to and ensures we can offer gold standard care, every day of the week. We also publish our waiting times online, letting people check how busy we are before they visit. We make sure we have enough team members to keep things running smoothly during busier times, and we offer a number of shift slots to provide varied and sustainable working patterns.

Because we’re bigger than traditional practices, we’re also more efficient. This means we can focus on diagnosing the root cause of an animal’s problem through offering work-ups at a much lower cost, helping us fulfil our commitment of affordable prices without compromising quality of care.

WORK IN STUNNING FACILITIES

“I always wanted to have responsibility for delivering every aspect of an animal’s care and here I can do this. You can’t beat the infrastructure here – the clinics are unparalleled.” Gavin McDonagh, Veterinary Surgeon, The Vet Waltham Forest

“The Vet is helping me fulfill my career aspirations by providing me with a really, really supportive team who help me work up cases and develop my surgical skills. Everyone is very knowledgeable and keen to pass on their expertise.” Hollie Ackers, Veterinary Surgeon, The Vet Warrington

Our clinics are some of the best around. The space and facilities here will let you tackle a diverse caseload, building your clinical skills and helping more animals and their humans enjoy life together.

All our clinics and facilities are purpose-built, giving you everything you need to deliver a wide range of care under one roof. Each clinic has its own separate dental, x-ray, lab and ultrasound suites. Each also has least two operating theatres, six consulting rooms and an open, spacious prep area, as well as separate dog and cat recovery wards and walk-in isolation. We also have a cosy and comfortable staff room where you can relax during breaks and the team enjoys a free lunch together each Friday.

These facilities aren’t just a nice-to-have, they play a critical role in helping us to deliver industry-leading, gold standard care. Our clinics and the volume of customers we see mean that you can tackle a truly diverse case load, giving you the opportunity to strengthen and improve your skills and expertise. Orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery and internal medicine are just some of the clinical disciplines that we can offer – and working in multi-vet teams will help you feel confident when approaching challenging cases.

Being able to treat such a wide range of cases helps our vets to thrive and our CPD support helps consolidate and strengthen their learning to achieve gold standard. We invest up to £1500 and five days each year for our vets and £750 and three days a year for our nurses. We also fully fund further diplomas and certificates as well as covering registration and insurance fees.

BE PART OF A THRIVING CULTURE

“Even though I work part-time, I’m never made to feel like a ‘part-timer’. I’m included in all aspects of the practice and I feel like my opinion is valued. I’m made to feel proud of the work that I do and encouraged to develop my skills.” Rachel Hughes-Wiseman, Vet Nurse, The Vet Liverpool

“The great thing about working here is that you feel truly listened to. You can bring new ideas for running your practice and then be given the freedom and encouragement to get on with doing them.” Bethany Birch, Clinical Director, The Vet Warrington

We believe that if our people are happy, working together and sharing ideas, then they will consistently give pets the gold standard care they deserve. Join us to be part of an ambitious culture that keeps you inspired, fulfilled and motivated each day.

Working at The Vet offers the chance to work in a values-led culture that is committed to delivering accessible gold standard care. You’ll be part of a warm, happy and supportive team that encourages you to voice your own ideas and make them happen. There are no boundaries here and we encourage collaboration between our clinics and across the business.

At The Vet, the team comes first. We’ll make sure you have all you need to stay happy and healthy, so you can perform at your best. Everyone is encouraged to take their full breaks throughout the day – and our no-appointment system means that you’ll only do what you’re able to do during working hours. We’ll also give you dedicated time each day to call clients and perform other important administrative tasks.

We do all we can to ensure everyone at The Vet enjoys a good work life balance. We offer flexible shifts and part-time working hours tailored to you, because we don’t believe your personal life should be compromised to do the job you love. Our rotas and weekend working patterns are scheduled to give you lots of time to concentrate on life outside of work. In return for your commitment and hard work, we’ll offer you a highly competitive salary, a market leading pension and generous holiday time. We also reward those who learn, giving salary boosts to those taking on further diplomas and certificates.

REALISE YOUR POTENTIAL

“Regular appraisals help you identify where you are in terms of your role and career progression and also ensure that your own needs are being met. They also provide a chance to talk about your opinions and ideas for the practice.” Jen White, Clinical Director, The Vet Morden

“I’ve had great management and coaching support to help me feel confident evolving the business skills I need as a deputy clinical director” Abby Winchester, Deputy Clinical Director, The Vet Southampton

Everyone’s career aspirations are different. We offer the very best facilities, training and career progression opportunities to help you realise your ambitions – whatever these may be. Providing unparalleled professional development support to help you reach your potential is one of the many things that sets us apart from traditional practice.

We believe that people thrive when they’re given support to focus on what matters to them. Along with everyone else at The Vet, we’ll give you a structured professional development programme and a dedicated line manager to oversee your professional growth. You’ll receive an appraisal every three months, giving you a valuable chance to receive constructive feedback and to voice your own ideas and opinions.

We’re a rapidly expanding business with exciting opportunities for career progression. We’ll give you the chance to take on more responsibility if you want it, along with leadership, business and management skills training, which we know is such an important part of modern practice. You’ll also have access to a diverse peer support network, with a business manager working alongside a clinical director in each clinic. We’re keen to hear from both experienced vets and those new to the profession – and we’ve just launched a brand new programme to help ambitious new and recent graduates fast-track their careers.

Working here will give you the chance to build new skills and take on new challenges, helping everyone to make the most of their abilities. If you’re a nurse, we’re passionate supporters of schedule 3 work. This means we give you priority to do challenging work including dental scale and polishes, nurse clinics, 2nd vaccinations, pre and post op checks, as well as a high level of involvement in client consultations. If you’re a vet, this means more time freed up to tackle more complex cases and for case management.

We invest in our team and offer generous CPD allowance to help you develop skills that you’re passionate about. This creates a thriving working environment where you can constantly improve and deliver consistent gold standard care. Our people say that The Vet’s support has helped them progress their careers in ways they never thought possible until working here.
