A well-established, friendly, and sociable veterinary practice seeks an experienced veterinary surgeon to join its supportive team. The practice prides itself on teamwork and fostering a positive work environment.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for a veterinary surgeon looking to work within a progressive and supportive mixed practice while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
The Role:
This is a truly mixed role, offering a balanced caseload across farm, equine, and small animal work. With a strong focus on work-life balance, the position provides the opportunity to enjoy the nearby mountains, sea, and city. The standard schedule consists of a four-day workweek, with normal hours to cover the opening hours, and 6.6 weeks of annual leave.
Out of Hours Service & Rota:
The practice operates its own out-of-hours service on a 1:8 rota (with plans to expand coverage upon filling this role). Routine hours run from 08:45 to 18:00, with two vets always on call—one as the primary responder and another for additional support if needed. Compensation includes a four-day long weekend following a weekend on-call, an additional mid-rota long weekend, and financial remuneration per out-of-hours call.
Structured Caseload & Equipment:
A well-organized rota ensures every vet gains experience across farm, equine, and small animal cases, with dedicated operating days for working up cases to a high standard. Consultations are scheduled in 15-minute slots within manageable consulting blocks. Weekly clinical meetings provide a space for case discussions, collaboration, and team catch-ups.
The practice is well-equipped with modern veterinary technology, including:
Equine and small animal video endoscopes
Sector and linear ultrasound scanners for farm and equine work
High-quality small animal ultrasound
Digital X-ray (including dental and mobile for equine)
And more!
Candidate Profile & Professional Development:
The ideal candidate should have a keen interest in all aspects of mixed practice but have the flexibility and support to develop their expertise in a preferred area. CPD is actively encouraged with a generous allowance along with paid professional fees and subscriptions. A car can be provided if required.

Salary range: Up to £60,000 per annum (FTE), reflective of skills and experience
