A rare and exciting leadership opportunity has arisen for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon looking to progress into a Head Vet role within a collaborative, RCVS-accredited practice on the stunning South Coast. This is a fantastic chance to step into a key leadership position while mentoring a talented clinical team.

About the Practice:

This is a 5-branch, RCVS-accredited practice that prides itself on teamwork, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The Purbeck branches are home to a thriving client base, a fun, welcoming team, and an enviable location in one of the UK’s most picturesque areas.

About the Role:

The Head Veterinary Surgeon will play a pivotal role in leading and mentoring the clinical team, ensuring high standards of patient and client care while fostering a positive and supportive work environment.

Leadership Responsibilities Include:

  • Overseeing branch operations, including vet rota management
  • Leading branch team meetings and driving clinical excellence
  • Mentoring and supporting less experienced vets
  • Assisting with clinical complaints and client concerns
  • Collaborating with the Branch Lead Nurse to provide day-to-day support for colleagues
  • Developing the business and branch services
  • Participating in monthly leadership team meetings with senior practice leaders

Work-Life Balance & Flexibility:

  • 4-day work week (same day off each week, negotiable)
  • No out-of-hours requirements – emergency cover provided externally
  • Shared Saturday morning rota (8:30 am – 12:30 pm only)
  • Flexible working arrangements considered, including child-friendly hours

What You Need to Succeed:

  • Strong clinical experience in small animal practice
  • Passion for leadership & mentoring a team
  • Excellent communication skills with both colleagues and clients
  • Ability to work independently & in a team, including sole charge
  • Organisational skills & problem-solving mindset
  • Surgical proficiency and confidence in routine procedures (desirable)
