We are currently recruiting for a unique opportunity.

Our client is a leading Veterinary Group in Australia and they are looking for a Lead/Senior Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join their team on a permanent basis. Our client is based near Melbourne, Australia.

The Company:
Our client is one of the largest Veterinary Groups in Australia and growing. They currently have 27 clinics up the Eastern seaboard from Victoria to Queensland employing 52 vets and 92 nurses. The clinics are based within a retail environment and have three parts to each clinic. A Veterinary Practice, Pet Retail Outlet and Grooming Salon. All their clinics are small animal and exotic general practices, with each clinics size and client base varying depending on location, age of clinic and number of team members. Their base clinic team structure is 2 Veterinarian (1 Senior Veterinarian & 1 Associate) & 2 Nurses. Within their network, they have 1 clinic with capacity for 4 Veterinarians, 6 clinics with the capacity for 3 Veterinarians and the remaining 17 clinics are 2 Veterinarian practices. As the clinics grow they have the capacity to increase the number of Vets on staff. Each clinic has veterinarians with different speciality skills, this varies from clinic to clinic but includes Penn Hip, Orthopaedics, Exotic Specialists, Soft Tissue. The clinics are fitted to a high standard and include Digital X-ray, Float top X-ray table, Blood pressure monitors and Ultrasound. Full in house lab including haematology and biochem, Digital X-ray, 2 consult rooms, full surgery suite, isoflurane ga + monitoring.

The Role:
Our client is looking for a Lead/Senior Vet to head up the team at their brand-new practice near Melbourne Australia. They are looking for a vet with a minimum 5 years post graduate experience and ideally graduated from a UK or Australian University (due to visa requirements).

Senior Veterinary Surgeons within the group have additional responsibilities above those of Associate Vets, they are responsible for the daily operational management of the clinic, rostering, clinical supervision, client complaint resolution and performance management of the clinic team. In summary, they perform the role of a Senior Veterinarian combined with the role of a Practice Manager. They are required to foster a collaborative relationship with the Store General Manager, Best Friends Pets Retail Store, Grooming Salon and the communication channel for all information shared from Support Centre to the teams. Their Senior Vets are coached and mentored by their Regional Manager to embody strong leadership qualities and foster a supportive driven clinic culture.

The surgical skillset our client is looking for is the ability to do cruciate surgery, Gastropexy, caesarean, cleft pallet. However, for the right candidate they can be flexible but strong medical and surgical skills are expected of a senior vet.

The working week is Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm, No OOH and 1:2 Weekends. Weekends consist of Saturday 9am - 5pm and Sunday 10am - 4pm. Additional Sunday bonus is paid for every Sunday worked.

The salary/package details are as follows:

Salary Range - $70,000 - $90,000 (Circa £50,000) dependent on experience 
Hero days - if you choose to cover an additional day that is not part of your roster you will be paid your base hourly rate + 30% loading.
Sunday Bonus - Any Sunday worked as part of your roster will have an additional gross $100 
bonus paid quarterly.
Continuous Education - You are entitled to receive an allowance for CE of $1500 and 5 days paid study leave.

There is also a Lead Vet Bonus Scheme for achieving practice budget and KPI’s.

Key Essential Skills:

•         Registration as a veterinary surgeon
•         A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a veterinarian
•         Ability to manage the overall responsibility of the day-to-day operations of a veterinary practice
•         Experience supervising, training and developing other clinical staff 
•         Strong organisational and time management skills
•         Effective communication and empathy skills
•         Ability to work in a fast paced team environment 
•         Understanding of relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
•         Flexible regarding work days and hours (including weekends)

Visa Requirements:

Our client is a registered visa sponsor and Veterinary Surgeons are on the Skills Shortage list for Australia. Visa applications can take up to 12 weeks to be processed and further information can be provided by our client on request.
