We are currently recruiting on behalf of a busy RCVS accredited hospital practice based in Essex. The practice currently requires a Permanent Out of Hours small animal Veterinary Surgeon to work alongside their dedicated day team late evenings and their OOH experienced Veterinary Nurse throughout the night.

This is a niche role and would possibly suit someone with an interest in emergency and critical care while studying for their certificate at the same time.

The Practice:
This well-established independent veterinary practice can be found in an easily accessible location in Essex. The practice is also certified by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons as a Tier 3 Hospital. They have a wide range of facilities which allow them to provide a high level of medical and surgical care for both small animals and exotics. They have a separate OOH service based at the hospital with dedicated night staff.   They are also, a certified nurse training centre and they have over 50 staff members who are all trained to a high level of competence.
This practice has an excellent reputation and aims to offer the same 5 star, excellent standard of client service and patient care to their out of hour clients and patients, as they offer during the day. This will involve a customer centred approach where all their OOH clients’ needs are met, including those of other subscribing practices.

The Role:
This is a full-time position with a working pattern of -
7 nights on, 7 nights off - Monday to Sunday (88 hours)
The hours are as follows: -
Sunday night to Thursday night start at 7pm, finish at 7am (Monday to Friday mornings)
Friday night and Saturday night start at 7pm, finish at 7am (Saturday and Sunday mornings)

- The 7pm to 9am hours also apply over Bank Holiday periods i.e.  if the Monday is a Bank holiday, then the hours on the previous Sunday night are 7pm to 9am

The Candidate:
The ideal candidate will have some previous experience in a similar role and have a genuine interest in emergency and critical care, ideally a certificate holder or with a view to achieving a further qualification in this field. Good verbal and written communications skills are necessary for maintaining accurate patient records and for precise handing over of cases to and from the day staff.  The ability to make decisions, problem solve, and prioritise your work load is key.  A supportive attitude to work alongside the OOH RVN together with being able to work alone and as part of a team is fundamental.

The successful applicant will be rewarded with a salary commensurate with their skills & experience.
