Permanent Head of Neurology - South Hampshire

Location: South Hampshire

Practice: Part of a group - This is a multidisciplinary referral centre, located in the South of England, close to the New Forest National Park and South Coast, offering easy access to a multitude of outdoor activities. 

Facilities: Their hospital facility enjoyed a:

  • £5 million redevelopment completed November 2022, which included a new reception, consulting rooms, new theatre complex and physiotherapy facility.
  • Further redevelopment is planning to create a dedicated diagnostic Imaging building, which will include a neurology and medicine suite. Imaging equipment includes a 64-slice Siemens Somatom Perspective CT scanner and a 1.5T Hallmarq PetVet MRI, which will be replaced by a Siemens Altea 1.5Tesla MRI within the next 12 months.
  • They also have a SonoCure ultrasonic aspirator. A Lifeline R40 EEG system and a Nicolet Viking Quest EMG system.

Role: They have one vacancy open as an exciting opportunity for either a fulltime Head of Department Veterinary Neurologist, or a Veterinary Neurologist to join their existing team.

Duties:

  • Working with SMT to determine and evolve strategy for their department
  • Working with SMT and other HOD to achieve operational requirements of the hospital, as well as business targets
  • Attending Heads of Department meeting (quarterly)
  • Determining and justifying staff requirements for your department 
  • Determining equipment needs for your department & producing Capital Expenditure justifications
  • Managing teamwork and team relationships
  • Assisting with customer complaints relevant to your department & helping with complaint resolution in liaison with our Customer Care Manager (+/- SMT)
  • Organising, chairing and minuting regular department meeting (minimum monthly), communicating action points with SMT for information/approval
  • Appraisal of vets in your department
  • Rota, organising 24/7 cover for your department – this would be a shared responsibility with Heads of Department nurse.

Hours: They're looking for a full-time position, working a four-day week with a 1:4 weekend on call. 

Applicant Requirements: They invite applications from an ECVN or ACVIM boarded or board eligible neurologist to join the team. The candidate must be eligible to work in the UK and must be MRCVS or hold a veterinary degree registrable with the RCVS. If applying as a Head of Department, experience within leadership and management at a similar level is desirable but not essential for the right person.
