Permanent Veterinary Surgeon - Scottish Borders, Scotland

Location: Located in the Scottish Borders, the practice offers the perfect blend of rural living with easy access to Edinburgh (45 minutes) and Newcastle (1 hour). The area boasts stunning scenery and numerous outdoor activities, all at a more affordable cost of living compared to city life.

Practice: Part of a group

  • The practice is a well-established mixed practice with a strong farm animal base and a growing companion animal caseload.
  • It is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including DR X-ray, ultrasound, dental X-ray, bronchoscopy, gastroscopy, and multi-parameter monitoring.
  • Additionally, an increasing orthopaedic caseload allows for advanced procedures to be performed in-house.
  • The purpose-built large animal unit is fully equipped with Easi-scan ultrasound scanners, fertility testing equipment, and in-house hospitalisation facilities, catering primarily to beef and sheep clients, with some work involving camelids and goats. The practice provides pool cars for farm visits.

It includes experienced Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs), Patient Care Assistants (PCAs), and a dedicated client care team. The Opportunity: A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Veterinary Surgeon to join a welcoming and supportive practice known for its strong team ethos and commitment to work-life balance. This role is ideal for a compassionate and enthusiastic vet with experience in both companion animal and large animal care.

Hours:

  • Full-time (4 days per week, 8:45 AM – 5:00 PM), including 1 in 5 out-of-hours (OOH) rota.
  • A Friday off follows a weekend on-call.
  • Flexible scheduling options are available.
  • Out-of-hours work is well supported, with a dedicated veterinary nurse available to assist when required.
  • There are no routine weekend consultations.

About the Role: The successful candidate will be part of a close-knit team that values collaboration and professional growth. Responsibilities will be shared between consultations and surgical procedures, with individual interests and specializations encouraged. While the role is primarily small animal-focused, there is a farm animal on-call component.

Salary: Competitive salary of up to £60,000 p/a (dependent on experience)
