Permanent Registered Veterinary Nurse - King's Lynn, Norfolk

Type: Small Animal

Location: King's Lynn, Norfolk

Practice Type: As an independent practice they are hugely proud of what they achieve each day and of the team that does it.

Team: They currently have 13 Vets, all with different interests at work and hobbies at home. Individuality is embraced here and they encourage growth within the whole team. They believe a stick in a bundle cannot be broken. They work together, using each other’s strengths, to bring the best outcomes for patients.

Support: Their team is wonderful! Vets are supported by a great front-of-house team and an incredible 24-strong nursing team.

Growing the team skills: Currently, they have Veterinary Certificate holders in Surgery, and Medicine, with others looking to finish theirs in Ophthalmology, Cardiology, ECC, and Surgery. They also have a graduate entry scheme to give new graduates a more structured and supportive start to their Veterinary career, as we know this can be a difficult, challenging time.

Facilities: Today our client is an RCVS Level 3, and ISFM ‘Gold Standard’ Hospital, full of fun exciting toys (DR X-Ray, CT, Cardiology level ultrasound, Dental suite with dental X-Ray, and an array of scopes) that is open 24/7, with a Nurse and Vet on-site at all times. They have a second practice nearby and all team members spend time at both practices to ensure good team morale and a sense of cohesion. They are a single team working over two locations. No separation, no competition. They have a beautifully light and airy prep room, theatre suite, dental suite, lab, CR X-Ray, and separate Dog and Cat wards.

Role: They are seeking talented RVNs or final-year SVN’s. You will work across both of their locations and they can possibly look at structuring a part-time role.

Hours: Their nurses work a rota which consists of the following shifts:

  • Early Shift: 6.45 am – 3.45 pm
  • Core Shift: 8:30 am – 5:30 pm
  • Mid Shift: 9:30 am – 6:30 pm
  • Late Shift: 10.30 am – 7.30 pm

When allocated to a late shift (10:30 am-7:30 pm/10 am-7 pm) their nurses are also on call for the night team should they require any support between the hours of 7 pm – 7 am.

Their nurses also work on the weekend rota, between the hours of either 7.00 am to 4 pm, 8.30 am to 5.30 pm or 10 am to 7.00 pm when scheduled. Weekend duties are currently one weekend in five but this is subject to optimal staffing levels. When working a weekend nurses gets two days proceeding and two days following the weekend off.

Additionally, their nurses work on the night rotation (between the hours of 7.00 pm and 7.00 am), normally on 4 nights over a 10 week period (subject to optimal staffing levels).

Where you are also required to the night duty rota you will receive the Thursday preceding the duty and the Tuesday to Friday following the duty off as recovery.

Daily work: Their wards are spacious and equipment is first class, abundant, and includes CT. Their Nurses rotate between wards, theatre, and consults with a fair and even distribution. The caseload is abundant and intriguing with their theatre days offering up more than just routine procedures. Their rota is balanced to ensure a work/life balance.

Salary: The salary of £23,000 - £30,000 p/a dependent on experience and rota.

Benefits:

  • Full private healthcare from day one of employment.
  • You will benefit from an uncapped CPD allowance.
  • If you have children, they will each receive £100 in book vouchers from the practice on their birthday (reading is important!).
  • 20 days holiday per year rising to 28 days per year with service plus bank holidays (plus your birthday off if falls on a work day).
