We are working with a purpose-built practice in Devon that sees a wide range of small animal, exotic and equine patients suitable for case exposure to maintain interest and experience in Ophthalmology. This is a permanent position that could be either full or part-time.

The Practice. 

Our clients' practice has state of the art facilities include a 16-slice CT scanner, ophthalmology theatre with phacoemulsification, electroretinography, high definition minimally invasive surgery theatre, a dedicated dental suite with high-resolution radiography, a flexible and rigid video endoscopy suite, and a lecture theatre. They are easily accessible from the A38, A380, and M5 in a convenient location near Newton Abbot, Teignmouth, Totnes, Torquay, Paignton, Torbay, Exeter, and Plymouth. They provide a caring service to pets and their owners in Devon, Cornwall, and the rest of the South-West

The Role: 

Our client is looking for a qualified veterinary surgeon for a full or part-time position in ophthalmology. The position could be 3-4 days a week with shared OOH 1:3 weekends and nights. The applicant should hold postgraduate qualifications in ophthalmology and be at least an RCVS Advanced Practitioner. The successful candidate would be expected to take responsibility for inpatients, a clinical caseload (medical and surgical cases), and an equal proportion of on-call.

You will be part of a 3 vet team, specialist lead (DVOphthal, DipECVO FRCVS), a second-year ECVO resident plus a new person to replace the finishing 3rd-year resident. 7 nurses and kennel assistants. (1 diploma holding nurse.)

You will be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, or eligible for the membership that also:

  • Hold a UK recognised veterinary qualification.
  • Be an RCVS advanced Practitioner or be eligible for application
  • Have clinical experience as a first opinion veterinary surgeon.
  • Have a good command of the English language is imperative to be able to function in clinical situations and interact with staff members and clients
