We are working with a charity practice in Swansea, South West Wales that is looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join them on a part-time permanent basis.

Do you have a business mind and a social heart?

Would you love to do a job that gives you an overwhelming feeling of satisfaction knowing that every day when you walk through the door you’re contributing to a lifetime of wellbeing for every pet?

Then we might just have the role for you...

The Practice:

Founded in 1917 by animal welfare pioneer, Maria Dickin CBE, PDSA is the UK’s leading veterinary charity. Operating through a UK-wide network of 48 Pet Hospitals, PDSA provides low cost and free veterinary care to the sick and injured pets of people in need and promotes responsible pet ownership.

The hospitals are well equipped with the likes of ASIF Kits, Endoscopes, Digital Xrays, Ultrasounds and ECG equipment - just to name a few! They have a very varied caseload with great opportunities for Surgical and Medical development.

The Role:

Our client is seeking a Veterinary Surgeon who will be responsible for the delivery of an efficient, professional and caring service to clients, providing a high standard of customer service and clinical care whilst also promoting pet wellbeing and delivering preventive services.

The practice has excellent hours of work and they are 09:00 until 17:30, with one 08:00 start and one 18:00 finish a week (lieu time is given for any extra time worked) with an hour lunch break and two well-respected 15-minute tea breaks. During the working day boredom is seldom seen and job satisfaction high; with an emphasis on education and preventative treatment which is well received. The opportunity for surgery exceeds that of traditional private practice and there are a few medical challenges too. They pride themselves on their level of patient and client care; with an idea-sharing and progressive environment. Their aim of providing a healthy life for all pets is at the heart of their dedicated and driven team.

This is a part-time role where you will be working 30 hours per week which will include Saturday morning rota only working 1:9. There are no out of hours as these are covered by Vets Now.

The Package:

In return, they are offering a competitive salary of £33,281-£43,421 FTE p/a (inc allowances) DOE and an excellent package (pro-rata for part-time roles) that includes:

  • Allocated CPD funding of 37.5 hours
  • Excellent career opportunities/development
  • 5 weeks holiday per year
  • Paid statutory holidays
  • Travel allowance
  • Life assurance 4 x annual salary
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Private medical insurance (after 12 months service – permanent employees only)

The Candidate:

The successful candidate will be an RCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon and responsible for updating their knowledge by attending regular CPD training. You will be involved in all aspects of clinical governance at the Pet Hospital, responsible for managing cases cost-effectively, encouraging financial contributions from clients, and making sure that all resources are used appropriately.
