Permanent Veterinary Surgeon, Birmingham

We are working with a busy small animal practice in the Birmingham area that is looking for a part-time permanent Veterinary Surgeon to join their friendly practice.

The Practice:

Our client is passionate about high-quality care, they have all the usual toys plus dental x-ray, laparoscopy, endoscopy, Kyon TPLO equipment, and harmonic scalpel. Both JVP’s are highly experienced surgeons. One is a certificate holder, the other is in the final stages of completion. They aim to keep the majority of their caseload in-house but are within 45 minutes of a quality referral hospital if needed. They would be keen to develop a candidate's own interests with certificates encouraged and funded.

They are a 3.5 vet practice with 2 RVN’s, 2 SVN’s, one ANA (due to become an SVN in September), 4 reception staff, and a Practice Manager (RVN). The clinic sees a varied caseload with a high proportion of insured clients. They are exclusively small animals comprising approximately 45% dogs, 40% cats, 10% rabbits, 5% other small fluffies. Their days are scheduled with 15 minute consults with a catch-up/break scheduled every 4-5 consults. Leaving on time is prioritised with the last appointment time being 6:45. The clinic closes and phones are switched over at 7 pm with 30mins of protected time after for calls/notes. There is also 15-30mins (depending on shift length) of time given in the middle of the day for calls, usually immediately post-lunch which is a 1-hour break.

The Role and Candidate:

Our client is looking for a part-time experienced Veterinary Surgeon with hours between 15-30 considered with scheduling flexibility offered. The clinic is open 08:00-19:00 weekdays, 09:00-18:00 Saturday, no Sundays. Saturday rota is 1 in 4, sole charge, consulting only. Vets are given one set ops day per week, however, consult only roles considered.

Their ideal candidate would be a positive, passionate Vet with a good sense of humour and a growth mindset.

The Package:

In return, our client is offering an excellent salary of around £50,000 (FTE) based on experience and skills. The benefits package will be discussed in the interview. the practice is well-positioned for Birmingham city centre and close to motorway links.
