Permanent Veterinary Surgeon, Colchester

Type: Small Animal

Location: Colchester

Practice: Part of a group - A purpose-built practice overlooking the beautiful Stour Estuary, the surgery is fully equipped to enable vets to provide a first-class service to their patients

Team: There are five FTE vets, clinically supported by seven FTE RVNs as well as six support staff. Practice Management is shared with the second site surgery, some nine miles away.

Facilities: Facilities include digital radiography (including separate dental radiography in a bespoke dental suite), ultrasonography, piped gases, multi-parameter monitor, flexible and rigid endoscopy, cautery, class IV laser therapy, tonometry, and forced air warming for patients. Situated in the heart of Constable Country, the beautiful scenery made famous by the work of John Constable is on hand for those who like outdoor life; the coast and Alton Water Reservoir are also on hand for those who enjoy life on the water.

Role: They are looking for a full-time Veterinary Surgeon to join their established, friendly, supportive team, who enjoys the challenges of first-opinion veterinary practice as well as guiding recent graduates.

Hours:

They are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic veterinary surgeon who shares their values. They would prefer a colleague with at least 2 years of experience who feels confident with routine medical and surgical cases and is looking to progress in their career. They believe in offering flexible working and can offer a range of options including but not limited to;

  • Full-time

  • Part-time

  • Consulting only roles

The role would include 1 in 3 Saturday mornings but no OOH duties.

They actively encourage vets to develop their own areas of interest including support and funding to study for certificates if so desired.

Branch Work: They have two branches

Support:

  • Certificate study is encouraged, be that RCVS Cert AVP, or GP Certificate; recently completed and in progress Certificates include Medicine, Surgery, and ECC. Within their team, they have a certificate holder in imaging which allows internal referral for more in-depth abdominal ultrasound in particular, and a monthly visit from a Cardiology Diplomate not only provides excellent care for patients but allows up-skilling of Cardiology knowledge within the team.

  • They pride themselves on their friendly, collaborative approach as they believe that allows them to best care for patients and themselves. They do a lot of work with local Cat Rescue Charities and regularly see Greyhound Trust dogs. They have for several years supported a local charity providing care and accommodation for adults with learning disabilities and like to attend local agricultural shows.

Applicant Requirements: Prior experience of veterinary work in the UK is required and ideally the successful candidate may hold or have started a Certificate although consideration will be given to less experienced veterinary surgeons demonstrating a genuine passion for first-opinion veterinary care.

Salary: Up to £65,000 p/a depending on experience.

Benefits (subject to pro rata): They recognise that people are fundamental to the success of their business. Investing in people, premises, and processes is at the heart of what they do. In addition to a competitive base salary, you will benefit from:
