Permanent Night Veterinary Surgeon - Ipswich, Suffolk

Type: Small Animal

Location: Ipswich, Suffolk

Practice Type: They are an independent practice that has four branches covering different areas, in Suffolk

Team: Many staff (receptionists, nurses, vets, and support staff) have been with them for years, so they are a friendly, close-knit team! They are friends outside of work and go out on social events of various shapes and sizes.

The Role: An exciting opportunity has arisen for a night small animal veterinary surgeon to join a thriving, progressive, well-equipped independent practice.

Support: They are proud to offer a great network of support to new and recent graduates to enable them to nurture and grow in their veterinary career many of whom continue to work for us years after qualifying. They have many vets who are either studying for or who have completed certificates in various disciplines. Whether you are a new/recent graduate or an experienced vet, the role they are offering is guaranteed to give a varied caseload. They offer a great mix of consulting and operating; recently adding laparoscopic surgery to their services.

Hours: Full or part-time - Overnight shifts

OOHS:

  • They’re glad they can provide their own out-of-hours assistance to clients, without having to refer them to other emergency services. Their out of hours service operates from Woodbridge and as mentioned, they offer emergency appointments to our clients only.
  • The caseload overnight varies, but on a normal night there is plenty of time to work up a case and breaks in between cases. A private bedroom (with bathroom and kitchen) is provided and can be used if the shift is quiet – the nature of night shifts is, as we all know, unpredictable, but they do find that their vets and nurses are able to rest on almost every shift.
  • The night team comprises of one vet and one nurse, and both stay on site all night.
  • This team is responsible for looking after inpatients and answering any OOH calls. When clients do want to be seen out-of-hours, the vet will be expected to provide emergency and critical care to the patient, work up the case appropriately, and perform surgery, when required.

Successful Candidate: The ideal candidate will be friendly, confident, and committed to providing a good level of veterinary care. They do require a candidate that is experienced, as this is a sole role.

The Package:

  • Flexibility on rota if you would like to discuss alternative rota pattern
  • 31 days annual leave including bank holidays (pro-rata)
  • Certificates encouraged and funded
  • Company Pension scheme
  • Company sick pay
  • 5 days paid CPD (pro-rata)
